Here in San Francisco we are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge. I can see the south (far) tower from my home.

IN MEMORY. My Uncle Ted Martîn. Killed on his 29th birthday during the battle of Guam, 1944.

IN MEMORY. The Battleship Iowa. I took this picture today just after it passed under the GG Bridge bound for it's final resting place in San Pedro.
California.

Here in Baja Sur we are heading to cooler mountain weather.

How do you barbecue a steak this time of year in Yuma?
Hold it out the window?
Isn't a bed of glowing coals a little mean to get next to, in late May?

Party until you can not take any more but lets not forget what made this holiday possible.
Maybe at least once this weekend, hold you c-cktail high and thank the veteran who gave the ultimate sacrifice to keep us free. Ignore politics and
say a silent thank you.

I honor persons on Memorial Day:
Those lost in the line of duty.
Those who stand up for the U.S.
Who are willing to fight to make the U.S. a stronger and better country.
The SAME boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg. It's about what you are made of NOT the circumstance.

We will indeed offer up a toast to those gone before us, in the line of duty.

Instead of enjoying the warmth of Borrego Springs, busy painting a Victorian Home in Napa,Ca. It's so cold at night here (50F) I have to turn on the
heat pump on my Airstream with coffee in the morning. Hope to be done and continue my dreams of Baja and BBQ's soonest.
OH - do get some good wine here to soothe the Memorial Day Holiday.
Wish everyone a Great Holliday Week End.

Marc, that is a wonderful photo of the great bridge!
Let's see. Each day of this weekend we will wake up, look at each other and ask what is today? Once we settle on what day of the week it is, later
we will figure out the date----need calendar or computer for this. This retirement thing has its problems.
We will think about friends, family and others who have served and given their lives for out country, and we will think about how we will celebrate
when all of our troops are back home home, or at least out of war zones where they never belonged.

Have fun Bob and Debbie...
Hopefully, you guys will have a nice trip...BTW, found your post on Thomas Edison very interesting...but I don't think being a GEEK is all its cracked
up to be...they are socially maladapted and suffer in the long run. Quote: | Originally posted by durrelllrobert

My dad was an original China sailor, on shore leave off the Panay when the gunboat was attacked. He went to Subic Bay then on to the carrier Wasp. He
had album upon album of large color photos of China. Two sea duties, two ships sunk. "Hey Pop! This Negro Leon's For You!!"

If I feel up to it I'll work a couple hours in the morning with a few gringos erecting a playground park for the kids of this village. Two more
Sundays and it should be ready for them. Nice equipment = they say it cost Mexico 50K. All shiny and new but missing lots of parts.

Memorial Day
Friends in Honolulu are making sure that there is a flag and flowers on my uncle's grave there. He was a pilot and perished during the attack on
Pearl Harbor.
Friends in central California (Los Osos) are doing the same for my mother's grave. She was a WAAF corporal, stationed at the Santa Ana Army Air base
during World War II.
I am attending a gathering at a home in Rosarito - RIBS ON THE BBQ!
My contribution to the BBQ is the "Family Favorite Potato Salad" (Shh, it's a secret family recipe, but if you want, I will post the info.)
Safe and Enjoyable Memorial Day wishes to all Nomads.
