WARNING: Pet Owners Please Read
For the many years that we have traveled to Mexico we have always brought our dog with no issues.
Yesterday, while crossing at San Luis I got the red light and pulled over. The inspector looked over my truck and told me to go. Before I could get
in my truck another guy came up to me and asked me for paperwork for our dog. Normally I carry a document that show her shot records, but left in in
my other car. This guy hassled me for about 5 min before I pulled out my FM2 and told him that I will bring it next time. He then asked me to pull
up out of the way. So I figured here comes the money question. I had my dad and wife in the car. We lost my mom last week,and we were getting dad
out of the house. When I explained this to the guy he let us go and tld me next time to bring documents.

I assume you were going into the US as I have never had Mexican authorities ask for these documents BUT I have been asked for them by the US Border
authorities just about every time for the last three years when I cross, headed north at Nogales, AZ.
Which direction were you traveling? It's a little unclear to me, whether your initial statement was a general statement or one specific to this trip.

Hook, I don't think this was the CBP. I believe it was Aduana.

As he mentioned the Red Light, I assume he was headed south, and yes, it can and does happen going into Mexico --- albeit rarely.
We have been asked for our Dog's International Health Certificates by the Mexican officials twice--- once when we entered Mexico from Guatemala and
once about a year +/- ago in Tijuana at the main crossing.
We did not have any papers, but showed the lady from Aduana the tags on our dog's collars. We also explained to her that since we cross so often
because we own a home in Baja, it would be really difficult to have the International Health Certificates as they are only good for short time.
She agreed but told us that we should at least carry the shot records and she was correct.
Really very sorry for your loss --- it is never easy! And from another post, it sounds like you are now caring for your father. Good for you taking
him to Baja!

I would not dream of not having my dogs shot records with me when crossing the border in either direction. Sorry about your mom. Been there and done

Txs for the information. We take our "kids" down there a lot...will now paper up. Times are changing.
Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

The reason we did not have our dog's shot records that time was because we had their rabies shots done in Imperial County and even though it is a
three year shot, that county will only issue a one year certificate. So, we decided to just use their tags which only shows when the shots were
given. We don't like to over medicate them---so we are back to using a vet in San Diego so we can get the three year certificate.
The southern border of Mexico was real interesting. It was a previous dog and poor baby. To get back home, she had to have shots in Honduras with a
stamp from the US Embassy to get into Guatemala and a year later, she needed more shots and a certificate from Guatemala, we thought. However, when
we got to the Mexican border, they did not want the papers from Honduras or Guatemala, but accepted the two year old papers from the US.

Pet Health Certificates
Hubby is flying to Merida with his service dog on Friday.
Our local vet in Rosarito issued a health certificate and told him that a lot of his business is now coming from the need to have health certificates
to take dogs north into the U.S.

Thanks
My mom and also my best friend went into hospice the same day
My mom lasted 8 hours and my buddy 2 days.
We had 2 funerals on Thur and Fri last week. I do photography and did my mom and my buddy's memorial videos.
