Baja Boys' trip (expedited)
Well after scratching my head for a number of weeks, I finally came up with a plan, I mean, reason why I had to go to Baja. I suggested to my better
half that we would not have enough room in the truck for all of our things for our upcoming summer trip. In addition, I reminded her how busy our
construction guys probably were and if she wanted the new washroom built that I should head down and get him started. She reluctantly agreed and so I
figured why not take my son for another guys' trip.
My son joined me at school on Thursday morning and we left about 11:00 am. We crossed at Tecate enjoying the nice sunny day. Our goal was to get
some place past Catavina for camping. We both talked about how great it would be to watch the stars and fall asleep. We took our time and finally
got to El Rosario about 6:00. We picked up some food from Las Pasaditas, one of our favorite places in town, and continued on.
We stopped just before Catavina and drove off the highway a few miles. I kept telling my son the fog would clear and it would warm up just outside of
El Rosario. Nope....it was cold and windy and lots of clouds. We popped open the Autohome and were tucked warmly away in just a few minutes. Our
food was great and we quickly settled into a great movie.
The wind blew all night and we were up early. The drive down to Bahia Asuncion was uneventful. The road from Vizcaino was in decent shape except for
the final miles before the BA turnoff. We dropped by Grandma Zoe's to see if she wanted to join us for lunch at Juanita's. We had a great lunch and
visit with Grandma.
We haven't been to our place since January but everything looked great. Our neighbors do a great job watering and keeping an eye on things. We
quickly unpacked, made the beds, and settled in. Later Grandma came by and we went for a nice long walk stopping along the way to say hello to
friends. After some great tacos at Conchita's we made our way back home and watched Shrek, a tradition at the Johnston casita.
The next day, Gabriel and I set up the new table, bench seat, and chairs for the patio. Breakfast at Juanita's with Grandma and then I started
working in the yard. I was excited to see plenty of tomatoes in the garden. I also planted a few other tomato plants along with some yellow squash.
Roberto came by and we drew up plans for the new laundry/garage we are building behind our place. He is going to get started on the foundation and
will finish up when we return in a few weeks. It's going to be great to have a bit more room and laundry on site.
After Roberto left, Gabriel and I went out for a drive. We noticed some baseball players at the hotel and knew there would be a game later. I love
the baseball games and wanted to check out the new field. We invited Grandma to join us and were on our way.
The first game featured Los Cabos and Muluge. We caught a few innings and then decided it was time for a nap. The plan was to leave the following
day and camp at Gonzaga Bay before returning back to San Diego.
We got home and shortly thereafter Grandma came by to let me know my wife wanted me to call her. Turns out her car was acting up and she wanted
advice as to what to do. I decided it would be better if we packed up and hit the road. About ten minutes later, we were on the road for Guerrero
Negro and got a room at Cowboy.
We had a great stay at the hotel and my son made lots of friends as usual. We got some tacos to go at the restaurant downstairs and I had to laugh
when Gabriel asked if the workers knew any Spanish words. We watched the Dodger game and went to bed.
We got up early, had a nice picnic in Catavina on the way home, and enjoyed a two hour wait at Tecate. Fun! But there was a growler of Stone beer
waiting for me, my beautiful wife and daughter with big smiles, and some great memories with my son.
We'll head back down in a few weeks for our extended summer trip. I can't wait. Now it's time to enjoy some good food with family and friends.

sounds like a blast! Shrek night at the casa!!! good times for sure.
thanks for the pints. the wipeout IPA is pretty good. told my wife about the offer and she's all smiles. good luck with the car.

wow...talk about a power trip! We called gramma Zoe to invite to the fish & oyster BBQ with Udo and family and found out you had already left
town....next time...we had to eat all your oysters!!!!

Woody, open offer, let me know! And you'll have your choice of Shrek movies.....Wipeout is one of my favorites....we're doing a taste test right
now...Ballast Point down, Stone down, Green Flash is next....

Whew, what a whirlwind! Zac is one lucky kid to have precious time with his dad like this. You have built the Baja into this boy!! Bet grandma was
pleased!

I applaud all of your families adventures, but these boys trips only are the memories of a lifetime for your son. That's the way to raise a family.
