Sign down at the tienda says no sales or consumption until Monday at 8:00am. This has been true as long as I can remember.
I stocked up and am currently enjoying one on the porch.

I guess a group of merchants and tourist groups have changed this law. It's in the news article above.

La Ley Seca is not for your benefit. it is to stop campesínos from engaging in political arguments, leading to drinking, then machetes on election
weekend. México is a big country with many diverse groups, political and ethnic. Many voters do not speak Spanish. Gringoized Méxicanos can be found
in East L.A. Ask the police and sheriffs departments there what happens on a USA election day there even though many Mexicans cannot vote.

I first learned of this law many years ago while in Cabo. The elections fell on the Fourth of July and every US tourist we met was pretty upset as
all the clubs were closed. The hotels were allowed to sell, though. Luckily, we were staying with friends who owned a restaurant and thus had no
problems acquiring beer. We walked around town with our roadies and watched and listened to a bunch of upset tourists.

I know I am reading between the lines, but are you saying that the Democratos would not have had a certain person elected if the bars had been closed?

Drunk or sober, old or young, some folks are just plain stupid. And they'll vote if they haven't anything else to do. Who want's to base their
election on the "stupid vote"?

Reminds me of my beer drinking La Paz days,
there was a Mex local or 2, that were enterprizing
enough to stock up on qt bottles and sell them
us not so smart Gringos on election day,
used to call them Clandestinos, as in clandestine.
A beer drinker will go to lengths when deprived
