Waste of money?????? I remember what was like when I was learning to drive in the 50's. no. I think they have done a wonderful job. otherwise you
guys wouldn't even be down here.
Its easy now compared to what it used to be like. When I built in Abreojos 60 miles of hell.... now perfect, even with a few pot holes!!!

I was surprised a couple years back to watch them working on added lanes between Ensenada and Guadalupe. They were down a couple feet, which would
them be filled with base rock (I hope) and then a decent lift of a/c.
In California that would likely be 2.5 feet of base and two lifts of a/c, at least 1.5 inches per lift.
Out on 99 they are going down 3 feet.
The Baja road crew might just as well get some spray cans and paint that dirt black and forget about it. And, as pointed out, a ragged paved road is
more dangerous than a regular dirt road.

In our case, that would be Delegado.  Now, would you quit hogging
the road crews and send them our way?

Barry, when they first built the BA road (the new road from the Tortugas Road) there was one of those large gullies covered with a bridge built out
of rock and concrete. Within the first couple of years, there was a big rain storm and it was gone in a flash. They rebuilt it more like a vado
--- just like you suggested.

That's for sure, Marc. We used to drive into BOLA on the "really old" road which was a dirt track thru El Desengano Mine north of the new paved road,
and on to near Mesa la cantera where it re-joined the "new" paved road, thereby missing some of the worst potholes. The dirt road was in excellent
shape back then, and much more fun than the "new" pavement which was in horrible shape. The only problem was that it was hard to find the west end
where it left the main highway, but after we had the mileages down pat, not so difficult. That very old dirt track goes thru some really spectacular
cactus forests, and was well worth it to drive. Don't know what shape it is in now, tho------it has been years since we drove it.

That area must be still richly rewarding to visit. Untouched desert and cardonales are quite beautiful.
