U.S. to Require Passports at Border Entry Points
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-passpor...
(cut and paste into browser as this link was truncated)
Terrorists will have only 2 1/2 more years to walk or drive across with phoney Drivers' Licenses. Bummer!
Imagine having to have a passport when one goes across the border to buy illegal drugs, steal FREON or otherwise destroy the local economy with our
Gringo dollars. This is Big Brother at its finest hour.
Why stop at half measures? Protest this situation: Write the US Congress to close all ground crossing borders to only those who have gone through the
Sentri Program. Redeploy the left over agents to watch the desert crossings.
What will Pres. Fox do with this one?

I think it is a good move to require a passport to inter the country. it should have been that way all along. I don't know why they cant git it done
in 6 months. it only takes about 10 days to git a passport.

Yes, you will be stuck in Baja if you stay until 2007. You might just want to read the article and find that for yourself.

One positive effect....
Is that it should cut down on the number of undesireable gringos wandering around down here.

This is going to hit nightclubs/restaurants/hotels....
....from Ensenada to TJ pretty hard, I would suspect.
More room at the bar at La Fonda? Less crazies in Rosarito Beach?
I can see some potential benefits from this for those of us who possess them.
I am in favor of it simply as a means of controlling our border.

There are thousands on USA citizens who reside in Baja, and cannot get a US passport, due to the varied Law Enforcement Agencise that are looking for
them.
Yep, their time in Mexico now is ticking.
No more hiding out "South of the Border".
Also they can't get Mexican FM-3's, since they have no passport presently.
Guess they will have to return back to the USA and try in find a place there.

Hadn't thought of that MR Chuck.....
.... I wonder if we will have an, uh, amnesty program for those who have illegally fled their country.
Or maybe Mexico will grant them temporary guest status for as long as they continue to spend dollars.

Dark days ahead for families
Think of the 20-30,000 people who go to see the whales each year?
Think of the 10,000 bike riders who go twice per year to the Ens-Ros ride?
Think of the drunken brats and lowlife a**holes who frequent the bar scene each night in TJ.
Think of all the cretins who ruin Rosarito Beach at Spring Break.
...but then think of the occasional visitor with the family...I suspect many of us found out about Baja tha way.
No more spontaneous trips with the family?

A passport costs less than $10 per year. Anyone who can't afford that also can't afford the gas to drive down here.
