A day at the Track in Asuncion
Asuncion has lots of horses and ranches nearby and horse racing is a favorite past time. Saturday we had a great day at the quarter mile track in the
company of a few nomads, zoe, nan&d, bajagrouper and twogringos. I love visiting all the horses...I picked winning horses in both race winning a
grand total of 40 pesos!!! here are some pics of the day

the happy jockey after a win by a nose hair!

and here is one of the races...the losing horse caught up near the end and only lost by a wee bit.

I would have picked "La Tormenta" just because of the name. Thanks for the images, Shari!

Wow, that youtube was great, as are your photos! How much fun is too much fun?
Thanks for sharing this Shari.

Small town fun always seems better. It's usually the only diversion from the ordinary at that particular time, no competition from all the other
things you find in a large city. It's easy to find friends and neighbors or make new ones with folks you'll actually see again. I went to the horse
races in Bahia de Los Angeles this spring and the event looked remarkably similar to Shari's pictures. Two lanes of straight line track with rigs
full of spectators lining the track, the Tecate tent, and bookies doing business at the finish line. It was a great way to spend an afternoon.

Shari,
Thank you so much for a great time. Deb and I will be back for a longer stay next time.
For anyone who has driven past the turnoff at Vizcaino and wondered what was "out there", I would highly recommend taking the time to drive out to
Bahia Asuncion and see Shari's "piece of paradise". Town is old time Mexico, scenery is great, and Shari's hospitality and enthusiasm are terrific.
Well worth the time to drive the marginal road (about 1.5 hours).
We had to leave before the horse races, but not before having great shrimp tacos with great people.
In short, a great time!
Jim and Deb

I heard a wonderful rumour a couple days ago that the knarly part of the road from the turnoff to Tortugas to "Eden" will be paved in the next short
while...this would be a dream come true.
Bajadreamers...thanks so much for your kind words....we DO have fun dont we? Next time we will do it up right with you when you stay longer....
Sr.Grouper...it was a pleasure having you ride co-pilot with me for awhile!

You're gonna have some competition from Jimbo...who bought Kevin's place...he never misses a day at Don Ramon's...he got a t-shirt for perfect
attendance! For the fiestas they will also have seafood c-cktails and carne asada maybe.
