40th Aniversary of Herb Alpert's "Whipped Cream"
Hard to believe it's the 40th Aniv of this famed LP! April 1965 release. While I was too busy listening to the Rolling Stones, Beatles, Byrds, Beach
Boys and Dave Clark Five, my parents were constantly putting this on the player. It was actually one of their few records that I liked (Way better
than Robert Goulet or Camelot - at least at that time). I still have the copy today (I swiped it from them so it would not get sold in the various
garage sales over the years).
This article on CNN's site alerted me to the aniversary. And what a great cover. In those days, TJ was actually a destination place and my Mom (she
was only 30 at that time) would drag us down there every few months for a day trip. I always liked going to TJ in those days, although I always
bypass it now for Rosarito/Ensenada. And I no longer live in SoCal (moved to Kansas 26 years ago)
Yeah I know that Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass actually had nothing to do with TJ but I thought many of you might enjoy this article and remember
this seminal LP.

Hope it spurs some memories for some!

i will pay for a copy of that LP on cassette
or CD or MP3.
or i would pay insured shipping both ways to master a copy of the orig LP - if anyone's interested - plus make CD or MP3 copies, noise corrected etc.
and send to you.
i have been re mastering works on LP via the computer now for 3 years - i get excellent results!
John - where in KS??
i grew up there. and return each fall to commit bird murder.

Cap't Mike,
My vinyl copy would not be worth copying (too many miles) and is probably only fit for eating pizza on - but if the CD is being released this Tuesday,
I will be buying a copy - assuming any of my local stores will have a copy for me to buy. If I can find it this week, I will bring a copy for you
down to the book signing at the Pyramid this weekend. If you are going, I can give it to you then. Let me know. I leave this Friday am and will be
eating lunch in Puerto Nuevo anf then checking in to Keri's there after, on Friday afternoon.
BTW, Wichita is where I live now.

thx John
i grew up in the salt capital, Hutchinson, just a ways north west of you.
you would be surprized what i can do with even old scratchy LPs. once in digital you can remove most extraneous noise.
i can't make the Keri party this year. how far south you going? stop by my place in mulege, if i'm there.....well we do have a bar doncha know!

John,
I too grew up listening to my parents Herb Alpert records. A couple of years ago my brother stumbled on a CD of the original Whipped Cream. Sent me
a copy.
I know what you mean about the connection to TJ/Baja and listening to Herb Alpert. I also make that connection. Very cool to sit back and listen and
drift back in time.
Glad to know somebody else feels the same way.

Interested on your softwear to copy lp to cd. I have over 2000 lp that I was thinking of getting rid of, getting ready to retire down in Buena Vista
in a few years and would be a lot of trouble to take down.

AKBEAR - yes! look for U2U
archiving LPs is great fun. On a good analog rig vinyl shames most red book CD standards. This year (2004) vinyl sold more than SACD and DVD-A
combined. It's coming back in a big way. I love spinning LPs. but putting the data on a compressed format like mp3 gives you a lot of options too.

I have an old Baja Marimba greatest hits album somewhere in my garage. I also have Herb Alpert's greatest hits on vinyl as well. I read on the Whipped
Cream website that the model in that album cover was 3 months pregnant at the time of that photo shoot.
Here is a site to listen to 20 second samples of Herb's Definitive Hits. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=cat12071&Arti...

Don't forget about, what I think was Herb's first LP, "The Lonely Bull"? I also have that on vinyl and I'm pretty sure it is in good shape. I picked
it up at a used record store in Hollywood for $1 back in 1976.

If I can find it, I'll trade it for one of your T shirts. If that is too much, you can have it for free.
