WTB digital camera

When we went to Tijuana for the Dia de Los Reyes Toy event on the 19th, we had a great day, marred only by the loss of Merry's Nikon digital camera. I cannot afford to buy another $350 camera but am looking for a digital camera of decent quality for an affordable price. Not planning another trip to Ca. very soon, hoping someone here in Baja might have or know of a good deal. We are in the Ensenada area.
I can probably afford about one third of what the last one cost. Thanks for reading.

maybe check the pawn shops in Ensenada...you could get a good one cheaper than new for sure....or even segundas.

Good idea, I'll take a ride tomorrow. It's been so long since I've used pawn shops I'd practically forgotten they existed.

Thinking maybe a camcorder as a second choice.. Might be able to get some good stills from video. I just want to be sure to have something better than my cell phone before I head to GN in March.

oh yeah....I would highly recommend getting "camera'd up" with spare charged up batteries and extra card too...you're gonna need it. Video is great but there is nothing like digital...although for whale stuff a reflex camera is better...I usually have a video camera in one hand and my still camera in the other.

Videos can be shaky as when the whales are right there, you can get pretty excited and the boat moves around with people leaping from side to side...can be a real frenzy!

A good thing is that a lot of the digital cameras have movie mode too now. If you can dig up the extra change I would get the Nikon P510. I can't tell ya how pleased I am with mine. My bigger Nikon is on the shelf now.

You'll have to copy/paste the whole url above or just google Nikon P510.

Another thumbs up for the P510. Our Nikon D90 mostly sits around. Only problem I have with the 510 is macro shots, it can't seem to focus too well and I don't think it has a manual over ride focus.

Wow, just saw that Walmart has the Go Pro Hero for $ 199. It takes good fixed focus stills and great video and it is tiny. If you have any interest in video, ck it out.

Thanks to all who replied. My wife has decided to check out what Wally World has to offer tomorrow while we are in Chula Vista. I'm pretty sure we will find something to work. I haven't shopped for a camera in a few years, but after spending an hour researching online, I think a point and shoot pocket camera will suit our needs, and Wally world seems to have a fair selection.

I just got home from picking up the cheapest Nikon I could find at Wally World. $59 got me a pocket sized point and shoot with 16 megapixel and 5x. Should suit my needs for a while.
