AAA Baja map no longer available
I hope that the Ca AAA lady was wrong but they said that all they make is the Mexico map. Anyone else hear this? Good thing I've got a couple,
including the one in my cubicle.

Maybe you can get one online. Everything else in the world can be found online.

2010 was the last edition I have seen, and it is a reprint of the 2003 and 2007 research combined... maybe some small changes? Lets face it, 'nobody'
is going to Mexico like the mobs of the past... too many think it is unsafe. It would good to get a letter from the Auto Club of So Cal stating why
they stopped making maps of Baja.
2010 has a photo of a sandy path to lined with kayaks.
2007 has the San Felipe lighthouse.
2004 has palapas.
2003 has kayaks on a beach (taken the same place as the 2010 cover, just closer to the water).

Economy, I believe, is the more direct reason. Americans have short memories and the worst of the gruesome violence seems to be over. At least, we
arn't hearing as much about it.

About 6 months ago, I talked to Triple A and the girl at the front desk said that AAA was getting out of the map business, and turning it all over to
a private contractor, or discontinuing it all together.
The quality of the maps had deteoriated quite a bit anyway, and for the last few years I have been very disappointed in them. A shame because they
used to be the gold standard of general western maps.
I have cancelled my $55 subscription to their map & towing service several months ago because of this.

FYI, I just picked up several, at the office in North Clairemont (San Diego).
2003-2010 version.

Costly Maps
With one exception in 38 years (2000), the ONLY service I've ever gotten from Auto Club has been Maps.
And, the last time I looked at one of the maps was a few years back in O.C. looking for a street.
But, like other insurance-type of service, I keep it "Just in case for the day" and just renewed for another year.

well, i drive 180 miles each way to work. the peace (or is it piece?) of mind for a tow AND A RIDE home is outweighed by any cost.

Woody,
are you saying it isn't worth the cost....or the peace of mind IS worth the cost?
Don't believe everything you think....

GPS has done to mapmaking what email has done to the post office. It's a changing world out there.

Some pretty glaring mistakes/omission lead us to ignore our Mexico maps from CAA which were AAA products. On our first driving trip into Mexico we
bought Guia Roji, from the Mexican maker. Those together with Walmart maps for Stateside travel, help us out, along with a Garmin.
A crticism with the Guia Roji product is the lack of notation regarding elevations. But a stack of AAA maps still reside somewhere distamt from hand,
for planning. I always thought it simply amazing that by calling BCAA about a planned trip we would get twenty pounds of books and maps come in the
mail. Of course we payed for the service indirectly, along with the "trip tek" mini books that coloured our proposed route.

I would think that the major reason, economy 2nd,
and for me, the border wait coming back. The unsafe
factor seems to be the overiding concern of people
I talk to, maybe the fact that the older some get,
the less of an attraction driving into Mex is

The third nail in Mexico's tourism coffin is the border wait times. In fact, it may be higher than third.
Any one of the big three reasons could, at any given time , be number one, I suppose, but for sure, the three together are a lethal combination for
tourism down here.
Police corruption is waiting in the wings to step up to the big three, and for some, already has.
Jeeezo....is there any hope?

Sure for the same amount of time I waited to cross back north, I could drive from San Diego to Las Vegas... 5 hours!
I would still rather go to Baja, any day!!!
