A hug from Eli

Last time I was in Los Barriles, I was taking my morning walk down the road in front of Las Palmas. A friend had stopped me and we were chatting when this lady came up. My friend said, "Oh you should know this lady, her father wrote a book." Of course the lady was our Eli and she completely startled me by giving me a huge hug. Although through this forum we had figured out that we met in Mexico City on our way back to SJD after Julieta, we were hardly what one would have called friends.
I guess that my expression showed my surprise because she said. "Thank you so much for bringing books to Los Barriles"
Being in the book business has its rewards but hugs are rarely part of them.
Thanks, Eli. Hope to see you again very soon. If not before you leave, upon your return.

When Eli (Sara) gives you a hug you really understand that you have been hugged and that you are cared about. She looks you right in the eye and makes you know that her hug is straight from the heart. And Don Jimmy surely did write a book and a whole bunch of other stuff--LIKE making friends with at least half of the people in Baja. I am so proud to be considered a friend of both Don Jimmy and his most talented daughter Sara.

My smidgen of a claim to fame is that I have had so many really good friends. By Bernie Swaim December 2007
