Dentists and hospital beds urgently needed
I've been asked to post this note by the Rotary Club of Mulege.
Dentists are urgently needed for next year's dental clinic.
Additionally, the club supports the assisted living center in Santa Rosalia. Its one of the few facilities in Baja that offer long-term health care to
individuals. The Center treats its clients on a very modest sliding scale. If a client is unable to pay they are not turned away but receive care for
free.
The Rotary Club has donated 10 wheelchairs to the care center.
The facility building has been refurbished and has created the space for an additional 20 residents.
Beds are needed to make this happen, however. This is where Nomads can help.
The care facility in Santa Rosalia now has a waiting list of 40+ people.
With these beds, that number would be immediately halved.
The Rotary Clinic has a source of refurbished hospital beds and has the means to transport them. The Rotary Club is asking the generosity of Baja
Nomads for financial donations for these beds.
Please u2u me if you can help as a volunteer dentist or wish to give a financial donation toward a hospital bed. I will quickly respond with the
appropriate contact person's information.

I believe each refurbished hospital bed is $250. USD.
I appreciate that Nomads have questions about this. Post them on this thread or u2u me. I'll write 'em all down and try to get answers quickly.
Thanks for your interest!
I think its a good cause.

Hola Amiga, Try going on the Flying Samaritans web site and see if one of the Arizona chapters (I think it's Phoenix who does the dental work at the
Los Pinos Ranch clinic) to see if they're interested.

Let me say a bit more about 1000 Smiles.
These are dentists of all types that hold a yearly clinic for two or three days in Ensenada and other cities. Lots of US talent, as well as local
docs and nurses take care of many needy kids in town, working with the local Red Cross.
You should research this group.

Most excellent dentist referrals, friends. Thanks.
I'll get into this soonest.
It'd be great to have more care here in Mulege.
Everyone in town is so appreciative when the clinic is open.
It makes such a positive difference in the health of the community.
Folks come here from remote ranches a day's drive all the way through the mountains on the coast. We've coordinated follow-up care for them with the
fly-in clinics over there.

gracias Mulegena for helping on this project...perhaps contact Craig the dentist in Pta.Abreojos for some ideas. Also, the best way to receive Nomad
financial support is with a paypal account. As I have said before, if half the members gave $5 or $10 bucks, many beds could be bought.

Someone said this is a Rotary project, so doesn't Rotary have a specific fund to receive directed donations?

Mulegena, can you post a paypal account for this donation? That wd make it infinitely easier. Thanks.

Mulegena,
Do they not have a Seguro Popular clinic near there? Most of them have a dentist or at least a resident dentist as they did in the Cantu clinic.
Where is the nearest Seguro Popular affiliated hospital? Quote: | Originally posted by Mulegena

My wife Janet volunteers at the clinic and she is on the Mulegefishingtournament committee.. She just told me to have someone contact the committee
about the possibility of a donation.. It is possible that they have some money available... If you know Paul Kottler in Mulege get in touch with him..
I believe he will be heading north in a couple weeks.
good luck..

Thanks, everyone, for your responses, publicly here on the thread and in the u2u's I've received.
The Paypal account may be the way to go.
The Mulege Rotary Clinic does indeed have a bank account; the signer on the account is checking into linking with Paypal. I'll keep the thread updated
with information about that.
Now, for some really good news!
The supplier of the hospital beds has generously lowered the unit price to $100USD per bed and $50 per matress. This includes shipping and handling
and importation duties!
I'm amazed!
Ten beds have already been purchased and, as I write, are being cleared in Tijuana Customs.
That means we need only 10 more beds.
I think this is doable, yes???
I'll get the donation situation straightened out PDQ and will let you all know. As Nomads have done before a small donation on the part of many
individuals will get those beds down here to serve our beloved ancianos!
Thank you so much!

Wonderful news!
I wrote to 2 dentists and gave them the info. I sure hope they participate, they're fun folk and great dentists. Both speak fluent English, and
love to fish.
