Light rain all day. .62" so far. I'd love to have this once a month or so. If this keeps up for 3 days though there could be some road damage coming
into Punta Chivato. I'll go out tomorrow with the camera and see how we're holding up.

Bill,
I plan on driving from the East Cape to Lopez Mateos this Friday for 3-4 days of fishing. Is that doable in your opinion? How are the mangroves to
fish after this much rain? I can not get ahold of my buddy who drove down from San Diego starting Sunday and planned on arriving at San Carlos today.
Then spend a few days there until going down to get me. Things look bleak to me. Need to know cuz if I do not hear from him by Wednesday nite, I'm
going to fly home on Friday instead from Los Cabos.
Fishing is fantastic here at Rancho Leonero. Will fish 3 more days here until decision time.

Mulege Pueblo 2 pm update
~Continued medium-heavy rain constant since sundown yesterday, Sunday the 13th.
~No school today. Probably not tomorrow.
~Mex-1 from entrance of town to Pemex clear but for a little bit of small rocks skirting the right edge of the southbound lane just past the bridge
overpass.
~North River Road to the Lighthouse is a big sloppy giant mud puddle but still passable in 2-wd.
~All in-town roads clear and drivable; can cross the river under the bridge overpass but cannot use the 2 highway entrances/exits. see below
~Electricity has been constant so far. No outages.
~The fishing cooperative have yanked their pangas out and up to higher ground. No plans to put 'em back in 'til this is over.
~Sister-in-law is in contact with relatives up in La Purisima who report lots and lots of rain up in the mountains. This is significant to Loreto, San
Nicolas and Mulege as our arroyos begin up there.
~Relatives in the mountains also report a commuter plane, Loreto to Los Mochis-bound, crashed up in Los Comondus out of Loreto with 14 aboard today.
Anyone know more about this? Confirmed: please read corresponding thread. Condolences.
~Important to travelers: Road construction on both highway approaches on the south river road.
To enter and exit Mulege you must come through the arches at the front entrance.

Thanks for the reply. If I am able to make it to Lopez Mateos this Friday, I'm worried about the fishability of the mangroves after this huge flood
of freshwater fills them up. Back in the mangroves of s. florida and the Mobile Bay freshwater from major storms or hurricanes chases out the shrimp
and the fish that feeds on them. It takes weeks for the fishing to get back to normal. I'm wondering if Lopez's mangroves are the same.

reason the rain gauge stopped working and I haven't had a chance to investigate why, but so far, I've measured 1.25" the old fashioned way.

Adding to mulege report, highway 1 has 3 or 4 inches of standing water in many places, be aware of hydroplaning possibly. Traffic has not slowed down.
Be Cautious.

It was very good.

Thanks for the highway around Mulege update, willyAirstream.
Yes, always be cautious on Mex-1. Now, be extra-cautious.
Standing water and rock slides are gonna be common while driving through Baja Sur. Tropical Storm Octave wears a 10-gallon hat that's full to the
brim.
Where is Chuckie? I dunno. He hasn't posted for several days. It's too wet to run over to his house. Has he gone north?
Oh, btw, one of the town ambulances is stationed at the military barracks up in Loma Azul as a precautionary measure during the storm.
I've not heard any evacuation warnings from the municipality. Since Hurricane John they're pretty good about letting the town know when to get a
wiggle on.

buddha......The Sunday market was moved across the highway to Miramar after the arroyo flooded in the storms last month.
Dennis......Fishing in the estero should not be affected at all by Octave, and if one or both of the two trailing storms make their way up to Mag Bay
they may bring some rain, but probably not enough wind to affect the protected waters inside. I've been fishing outside on the banks whenever the
wind is down, but Ruben Duran fished in the estero last week and caught a little bit of everything including some snook.

Soggy Loreto
Just drove back across the arroyo from Augies to Zaragossa about an hour ago, no problem. The Malecon was near axel deep and the spray was coming over
the wall. We did have a 20 minute power outage here...candle time. Anyway still too much weather for K band TV but my Ham gear is doing fine.

The flight could have been Aerocalfia from Cd Constitucion to Los Mochis (no fight from Loreto).. Which would have had to cross the mountains near the
Comondus..

5:45 ~ .07" since midnight.
Yesterdays total here in Chivato 1.62" from my gauge.
Last I saw this storm wasn't suppose to cross over the mountains until late Wed.
Well what I can understand now it has made it over and heading East. Should be a non event by noon here. Some one with more skills please ad their
thoughts.
edit:
After some more looking I picked this Sat shot.

Appears to be a nonevent now.
