Sorry to say I was there two weeks ago and the "lake" is more like a pond these days. It is rapidly shrinking and according to the locals is in
jeopardy of disappearing in the next few years. As it is it's about a 1/4 mile stinky walk from the old shoreline to the current mud puddle. You can
leave your water ski's at home. Meanwhile in Guadalajara, where all the water goes, there is no sign of water conservation. Go figure!
Every beautiful beach in the world needs a few condo towers - NOT.

It is a nice area for sure. We had originally purchased the property some 8 years ago and had planned on developing a small RV Park. Things changed
in our life and we just don't need 12,000 meters of property.

We looked into Lake Chapala to retire before here. Friends sent us pictures and it was nothing but a mud hole then. That was about 9 or 10 years ago.

We moved to the Lake Chapala area some 6 years ago and the lake was on its way up at that time. It has lost some ground over the last couple of years
but recently the government is getting involved with deals and regulations to make sure it won't get as empty as it used to be. And of course a good
rainy season or two wouldn't hurt either. In fact this years rains seems to be about a month earlier than normal.

We loved Chapala when we went...it was gorgeous and although it has been a few years, I don't remember mud at all.
I do remember it as expensive and somehow, with all the arts n crafts, it was oddly similar to Todos santos in feel.
The hotel we stayed at was empty during the week as it is owned by the U. of Guadalajara and used by professors in their down time.
