BIG PARTY TODAY IN LA BOCANA

Tomorrow, the local Progreso fishing cooperative celebrates 70 years existence ... there will be a band brought over form the mainland, there will be a formal dinner, there will be a dance and all the retired and new members will be together- including a guy who now lives in Punta Abreojos who was one of the original members.

It will be a zoo in town and on Friday they inaugurate the new abalone plant with the governor expected to show up.

Should be amazing and I will try to get some pictures if I can get away from the 20 folks expected to fill our B&B!

The plan is to raise them to market size… which takes approximately 4 years.

For some reason, the sight of a stretch Limo in La Bocana just tickles me to no end! :bounce:

A limo...in La Bocana?

Did it come from the BA side or the Punta Abreojos side, which has less dips?

I'm not sure, Udo. I'm guessing they drove in from Abreojos.

The limo absolutely cracked me up too! I never met the person, they were on the lookout for the musicians who were staying at the hotel.

13 band members and the general manager for La Perla in La Paz were at the hotel. To say I am tired is putting it lightly! The group members were just angels. Band called LABERINTO. They have been around for 27 years and they were excellent and extremely loud. The party went on til 4 ish and Les and I danced til 11:30! We haven't done that in quite a while.

The night before, we did not go, but dinner was served to 1800 people. And everyone said it was delicious.

Pics later but how cool os the limo! Thanks Feathers!

so, I have here are some of the promised photos of the band LABERINTO which came and played for the huge 70th anniversary celebration of the Progreso La Bocana fishing cooperative. Turns out they have written and played songs for certain drug lords and the main fear here was that Vizcaino people would come over and create some strife. Did not happen BUT, the cooperative hired a huge group of very well armed federal police to hang out in La Bocana the whole while the group was in town, Scary stuff but we were totally unaware of the potential dangers...ignorance really is bliss.

They were just getting off the bus

the amazing concert that ha hundreds dancing away - they played romantic songs that everyone sang to:

I forgot to ask if the gov showed up, I think not though.

alan - they did indeed inaugurate the new plant BUT, I hate to say, there was a snafu with that. Apparently the lead architect miscalculated the concrete for the walls of the huge water tank. The first time they filled it, a couple weeks before the inauguration, it cracked! Can you believe it? They fixed it and it is up and running but geez, I am sure they could have done without that scare. For a moment the whole project had to be put on hold.
