ER Cultural festival communications
I'd like to suggest that any Nomads planning on attending the event to please bring VHF radios and/or your FRS radios if you have them. That is about
all I have as I ditched my CBs a few years ago.
Would be nice to have communications for planning or emergency purposes. I expect we might be able to talk from ER to La Bocana via VHF.
Anyone else?

Those sound like......
F amily R adio S ervice radios. Bring 'em.
We can establish a channel once we see how many have them.

And...the higher powered version of FRS handhand radios are called GMRS. They will work on some of the same channels as the FRS radios (1-7).
How about we use Channel 7 with no privacy codes set in?
The range quoted on the box is quite optimistic, but they should work all over town, but probably not from town to the beach.

No bueno with the CB, Jim......
.......but I will have an extra. You can use it for the weekend. Bring AA alkaline batteries.
For use while driving, a cupholder in your car works well.

Not being terribly familiar with all the workings of FRS or GMRS radios, Neal, how do I remove the privacy code and go with a straight channel seven?
My radios seem to want to tune in a primary frequency and a secondary frequency. These are denoted by arbitrary numbers (like 2-4 or 1-3).

I'm bringing CB and FRS as I don't think my FRS has any adjustments for channels. Jim, what CB channel will you have on? We are headed down Friday
morning and just taking our time.

CH 12 is what I usually use ....no special reason......do you have a favorite and some backup if that is "busy".....?
will bring some AA batteries also......
if not smoke signals.....
plan is to go down Wednesday to SAN CARLOS ....and come to town friday (about noon?).....my main thing is to explore around that area as much as
possible....meet some NOMADS...not sure about the "festival" thing much.....

Yah, just look at what Antonio's family alone did at the first Baja Cultural Festival for about 70 of us! http://vivabaja.com/fiesta
This time, the entire town of El Rosario is envolved!

MORE ON RADIOS:
I have (coming in the mail) the newer MIDLAND GTX-500 FRS/GMRS radios that have 5 watts of power and optimistically state they transmit for 14 miles.
In reality they will reliably transmit for at least 7 or 8 miles (I am told) and work great. Crystal clear transmissions. I love these radios. You
can get them on sale for about $35 each including S&H from Gary Owens "The Sportsman's Guide" catalogue. What a deal!!!! They operate on 4 AA
batteries. (batteries really cheap from COSTCO)
Now, if only I could figure out how to make it down for the fiesta------------.

IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE:
Just remembered----JC Whitney catalogue also has the same radios ( MIDLAND) for slightly more than $35 each.
