After reading this several time I think what captkilowatt is most upset about are the owners/operators of pangas not following the rules of the road
on the water. What happened capt did someone not give you the right of way?
Off grid, 12-190 watt evergreen solar panels on solar trackers, 2-3648 stacked Outback inverters, 610ah LiFePo4 48v battery bank, FM 60 and MX60
Outback charge controllers, X-240 Outback transformer for 240v from inverters, 6500 watt Kubota diesel generator.

| Sure, there are much better boats, but which one can you buy for the price of a panga?

Would you like to rephrase that? LOL
That is exactly the point... you get what you pay for!
Cheap=bare bones, no frills.
Shouldn\'t one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check or Sec.8 housing?
........... I had to pass one to earn it for them!

Cheap=bare bones, no frills. | When it comes to a durable bare bones skiff that can be dragged up on a beach
there really aren't any better choices than a panga. At least I haven't found one. Comparing a panga to a fancy trailer boat is like comparing apples
to oranges. Now a super panga is a different animal all together.

How much money you got?
A Parker deep V (for example only) is a nice boat....but most don't want to spend $60K.
Does a panga ride good in the slop?...No
Does a panga have all the bells and whistles gringo style? No.
The more "systems" the more goes wrong.
A Parker deep V needs 200+ HP......a panga a 75.
Will a panga go 40MPH?...No
Will a panga with a 75HP suck 1.5 GPH?.....No.
Can a panga handle 2 guys, bait tank and gear ok?...of course.
Are they "fishable", absolutely.
Parts?...what freakin parts....it's fiberglass and paint.
Ready repairs?....in every town that is near the Sea.
Ding the bow?....cry about it with a Parker and keep going with a panga.
Single axle trailer with a panga?..absolutely.
Brakes on that trailer?.....say what?
Lights don't work on that trailer?....say what?
Bottom line if one needs plush, fast, lots of systems and love fuel, a deep V Parker (for example) is the way to go.
Turn that 180 according to one's needs, a panga fits the mold.
MX pangueros are "guides".....Captain is for yachties in white pants and brown leather deck shoes.

DaliDali...Great post till that last line !! A capt is someone who has took the time and with experience to really understand his boat/ship and crew
and the CFR'S and other training skills (MOB,,SOLAS) that never stops !! and has foresight into sea and boat conditions..has a good judgement call on
conditions and possible outcomes of what ifs befall a vessel.....comms,weather,Anticapated weather, fuel, beer & bait, food and a host of
items..white pants ...argh !!!...

Good response until the first sentence.
Valid if your talking about San Diego and beyond, but not worth the time it took you to write that in Baja.
A lifetime on the water and having learned the ropes from his father on down, means much more to me than some parchment paper inked in fancy lettering
with gold gilded seals.
You can stick with your captains....I will go with the local lifetime knowledge every time.

Elitist? why,
Because we launch our boat with a trailer?
or because we take it home and wash it?
or is it because we don't need to drag our boat onto a beach and park it there?
Now we are an elitist because we buy and use boats the way it suits us the best?
If I had to drag my boat and beach it daily and also leave it unattended overnight.. I might buy a panga ..... but since I don't , I'll keep fishing
from something that is more comfortable, functional, rides great is good looking and fast.. oh yeah,,, the most important thing, a pottie for the
boss!
