Death Valley camping trip

A few weeks back a big Thursday storm was forecast for the entire west coast. I was able to get away and hoped for some weather in Death Valley.
Rain in DV is a rare experience for me so off I went on a solo trip.

This is usually a dry lake in Panamint Valley

Thanks, haven't been there in a long time. It was my favorite winter escape in my working days when a week off didn't give me time to get to Baja and
back. Once I started getting two weeks off, Death Valley took a back seat to Baja.

Beautiful. First time I have looked at a non-Baja string. I could not resist anything about DV. I have spent many week or weekend trips there in the
80's and 90's.
Thanks for unleashing a flood of good memories.
b-tchen place, Death Valley.

The last time I camped there was the 1st week of June '74.

Gas station where we would get our flats fixed had showers and a campground behind it.

It was so hot the cold water in the showers was hot and the hot water was hotter...after the fact, I couldn't figure out why I pitched a tent and
built a fire. Guess that's what you do when you camp!

Absolutely awesome pictures!

During the 10 years I lived in Ridgecrest/ China Lake I made many day trips to the places you photographed but the only time I ever camped was at the
Baker Ranch in Panamint Valley I only did that so I could tell people that I camped where Charlie Manson was captured.

Bob,

I'm sure you got to this place also.

Thanks to all for the kind comments. I've found that people I have met that love Baja and have been to DV, share a passion for both.

DurrellRobert-----------that would be the "barker ranch", not the "baker ranch". Unfortunately now burned down, and the girls are gone.

  | Yep, been to Ballarat more than once. Also know that Manson was captured at the Barker ranch, not the
Baker ranch. Just as an aside I used to own the St. Charles hotel in Johannesburg on 395 just before the turn off to Trona.

We love visiting Death Valley also. All of your photos are fantastic, but I agree with most that the photo of your campsite is astounding (look at
those stars too!!) Thanks!

Nice pictures Ken. I think the first one was taken where the hwy crosses panamint valley? I usually stop there to shoot compositions of cracked mud.
