Why? What's the purpose of this? Some of the questions I consider out of the realm of simple curiosity.

Thanks Ryan for posting this. The survey idea was suggested in another topic today in our group. I chose the questions from member suggestions and
based on questions from similar discussions in the past in our group. Not trying to make any particular political point or jar anybody's comfort zone.
The survey is anonymous and obviously voluntary, so if you find it troubling/annoying, simply don't participate.
The very fact that in just 3 hours we have over 400 survey responses indicates that I am not the only one who is curious...
Peace!

Almost 10,000 members at Talk Baja and 8364 here...so the response aught to be good.

The topic of expat visa compliance is just not very interesting, but I provided answers none the less; however, I am not an expat, so I answered
according to the way I imagine I would be if I were an expat...

My question could have been more intense, and I find it "troubling/annoying" that you would be so defensive about it. Now, I wonder all the more.
Ron...this isn't your first data gathering effort.....is it. If I recall....you did a survey about member's insurance carriers, so I'll ask again.
Why?

Just ignore it, you don't need to keep responding. Oh, also, don't look at the results.

I don't feel like ignoring it. I prefer to question why anybody is gathering data [even seemingly innocuous information] on a captive audience without
giving reason.........then to go on saying, oh, it's nothing. There's a reason for everything and I dislike being dismissed like a child without
adequate explanation.
Edward Snowden had similar thoughts about government, and I believe he was right......perhaps not for his methods, but for his reasoning, and I'll
look at anything I feel like looking at.

buen dia Mr.D! and everyone else in the sand box
I have always had a strong curiosity about what other people do in situations like living in a foreign country. I have wondered just how many gringos
living here actually tow the line and are legally in the country.
My guess is that they are in the minority...why? good question.
It is much easier here to get legal than it is for Mexicans to legally be in the states. OK so you have to jump through a few hoops, pay a small fee
etc., get some papers stamped but it isnt really that hard...especially just a tourist visa which takes only a few moments.
So why do so many people think it is OK to be here illegally...when there is soooo much guffawing about illegal aliens in the states?
I look forward to seeing the results of the survey just fpr curiosity sake. Perhaps it is fodder for another thread about why people think it is fine
to enter the country illegally. Some are just ignorant, some lazy, and of course because they can get away with it is probably the biggest reason.

Hi, Mon Sharí.........probably would be an eye-opener for sure, but we'll never know. The numbers of illegals in Mexico are far greater in the north
than the south.
Add to that....scofflaws can't be relied upon for truth.

I think it all depends on travel. We don't move around much cause we love this little place and we don't have funds to travel far.
We have never been asked to show our temporary or permanent visa by anyone except for air travel to the state in 20 years of permanent residency.
So once again lack of enforcement rears its ugly head as a reason for many deeds for better or for worse.
