Why on earth would they head out into the desert in that little car? I have high clearence 4x4 and I never, never would go into the desert alone.
I hope they bought full coverage ins. even if they could find the car again, I doubt there would be anything left of it.
The important thing is that they are home safe. This could have gone sooooo differently.
Mean people suck!

We live about 15 miles from the nearest paved road and there is lots of deep sand out in our part of the world. I help pull out cars all the time for
folks who come in little 2wd japanese cars with about 8" of ground clearance.
It never ceases to amaze me the off-road places people try to go in their cars sometimes...

Baja Gringo - people drive cars that are 2wd all the time down a beach path that is perfect for quads and no way geared for a car .... the joke is
that Les should put up a sign "Les's Towing Service" .... (altho we have gotten stuck way out on a beach too)

But there are those who are in the know as to how to get out, and they get out of a stuck place so fast and and boy, that does not cease to amaze me
either ....

I'm with you Dennis. The family posted that they were not letting anyone know where the missing couple was found because they wanted to "keep them
safe". Safe from what? If they were stranded in the desert, but made it safely to a hotel, then how would sharing this innocent info harm them?
I posted this question (albeit rhetorically) on the family website along with the fact that the events leading up to the fairy tale ending just don't
add up, and they chose to remove the post rather than permit those who have devoted their time an opportunity to read what I think is a very valid
question. What were they being protected from? We'll never know.

agree that it sounds like a BS story. i think they made some new friends in baja sur, had a good time partying, and then things turned weird and/or
wild, and now the kids (and possibly family) are telling a tale.
if true, after being found, why not go back to retrieve the car? why didn't they follow the road back to civilization after getting stuck? if it was
a low-clearance car like miata, they could not have been very far from a well-traveled road when they got stuck, so would have made most sense to
follow road back to help.

I don't think the story is BS.
But clearly there is something that Timgdixon didn't want to talk about as he went on about his right eye, and other things instead of telling the
"BN" board what really happened.
I suspect some illegal activity between one or both members of this young couple, and the family is in denial about.
Drug use is rampant among teens and young adults of this age, and many times we have young Americans go to Mexico and get involved with the wrong
crowd and come back in body bags.
I'm just glad there was a happy ending here.
Of course this is all conjecture on my part, but if I were betting the odds I say this story has some type of drug connection, and the family is just
finding out, but now they are too embarrassed to share their story.
But I doubt we will never learn the true story?
I guess they could have also got stuck in the sand.

The rancher drove them 3 hours to Ciudad Constitucion. I'm curious where the ranch was. Where could 3 hours to CC be where CC is the closest place?
Scorpian Bay? Full of surfers forever waiting for a swell? And wandering around for several days? Come on, just walk back to the highway.
And money was wired on a Monday and it was Saturday before they got back?
Come on Tim, give us the straight story.

I can surmise what happened: The couple were having fun and were decidedly against staying home and for leaving town-like any reasonable person, they
left on short notice for their own reasons likely upside down mortgage, crappy boss, unpaid parking tickets etc.. they argued over whether to visit an
island or not, they fought about which is better, Sea of cortez versus the Pacific, eventually the plan fell apart. End of story. Back home, Try
again next weekend.

maybe the family said they wanted to keep the kids safe because, even tho we were all helping, they really don't know us ??????? there are some
crazies out there, as we are all well aware.
I suppose drugs are a distince possibility seeing as how they sure could have folowed their own car tracks back to the highway they left - but maybe
they thought they were closer to the ocean and a fishing village ???
The whole scenario might indeed make for a good book/movie ... it sure has us going

Not a smooth story
I must concur with Dennis.
What I have noted here is:
Both of them....must have atm-credit card-cash and then can only afford a few days rent at the local Motel that far into their trip? How were they to
get home from their final destination?
We broke down past Coco's about 7 miles towards the main highway.....yet we got help and had the car up and running out of that desolated area at
11:00 pm I am sure that that "rancher" or one of his neighbors would had tow their red car out of there. Very unlikely to abandon one's car as nice
as theirs.
If my kid was stranded down there...I sure as hell wouldn't wait "till morning" to wire them funds in one form or another. It's a 24 hour world!
"Going on and on " about some medical condition and not getting to the point of the response...
Has anyone here called the numbers listed to ask "what happened"?
Finally....his picture....sure has darkness under his eyes...all niter type of guy with a little help?
Hope I am dead donkey wrong about all of this "smells like poop" story. But all they had to do was write "hey..we found them and they were bla bla bla
in Baja"!!!

Whatever! Some of us old curmudgeons tend to retain a keen olfactory ability. This was more than a little weird from the get go. Only thing I can say
is that maybe Nomads should thank Matt and Melissa and Tim, and whoever for providing the fodder for ten pages worth of posts!
It can't all be about fishing reels and truck tires!

I can see some "newbies" going off the wrong track, They may forget they aren't in the USA, don't know any better. I have had to leave the
"agurement" alone when people don't believe my advice when I tell them that they need Mexican liabilty insurence......per one of my cations.....(they
tell me that they have "full coverage" with their insurance, Yada, yada, yada) it doesn't surprise me that these "younin, newbies" got into
trouble..............Dennis, their "story" doesn't surprize me in the least.............Yes, there is somthing that hasn't been shared.........maybe
they are embarresd, because they were so reckless.............I would be. again, "newbies" will sometimes get in to trouble..............you and I,
and the other Nomads, have had the experence, and the caution over years to listen to our instints and avoid perill; Let's give them the benofit of
the doubt and just say..............Welcome home, and glad you both are safe.

Just like I cannot always hit the right button! I ended up wanting to answer your question about which part I was not agreeing with, and ended up
editing my post by mistake! I think I will blame it on some web-site tech that are driving me crazy, or better yet, I will blame some aliens.
So, again, I do agree with you, especially about just being glad they are safe and sound. But you gave us all too much credit for being experienced
and smart. We still get into those situations at times where we do not listen to our instincts and end up feeling really lucky we are ok and really
stupid.

What part did you "almost agree with" Seems that you made my point, silly
and reckless, un-experidenced "newbies" that got in way over their heads and got into trouble..............again, doesn't surprize me. just glad
they are safe, and hope they learned something and will come back to Baja a little more cautious.
I have to admit though.........I am nosy enough to know "the rest of the story" 
Mean people suck!
