this AM in San Diego raindrops were fallin' on my head...

this morning: dark skies, dramatic clouds, humid and then, finally, a few big drops, but too few to help the garden. sigh... sequia continua.

sun is back now.

Super Typhoon Vongfong . . .

As of 3 a.m. Japanese time Wednesday (2 p.m. EDT Tuesday in the U.S.), the eye of Vongfong was about 700 miles south-southeast of Kadena Air Base on Okinawa, moving west at about 10 mph.

Maximum sustained winds had skyrocketed to an estimated 180 mph, the equivalent of a potentially catastrophic Category 5 hurricane, according to the U.S. military's Joint Typhoon Warning Center.

Vongfong became the fifth super typhoon (150 mph max sustained winds or higher) of 2014.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, Vongfong has now surpassed Genevieve for the most intense western Pacific typhoon of 2014 by estimated central pressure (900 millibars). On the JMA typhoon intensity scale, Vongfong is the third "violent typhoon" of 2014, following Genevieve and Halong.

"It's safe to say Vongfong is the strongest storm on earth since Haiyan last year," said Michael Lowry, storm specialist for The Weather Channel. Haiyan killed over 6,000 people when it slammed into the Philippines in November 2013 with maximum sustained winds estimated at 195 mph by JTWC.

Wow...that sure puts things in perspective for us moaning about some rain & gale force winds. I can only imagine the horror of a monster like that...I hope they have good shelters ready...the carnage will be terrible.

So I wont whine about the 25 knots of wind and rain we are STILL getting...no laundry for me today...we did see a rainbow a half hour ago when the sun peeped out for a minute!

LA Bay only received 1 1/2 days of drizzle rain, and humidity. storms seems to be breaking up here. No wind to speak of.

thank you Ged...I find storms so powerfully beautiful that I want to capture that feeling. Today Simon is a different animal. We are getting the backspin so it is blowing strong westerlies so the rain has spun back again and the swell is battering the coast on this side of Asuncion. Some big boulders fell into the blowhole area and our beach is again exposed rock with no sand. No laundry today.

Here is what it looked like this morning.

Now at mid day the wind shifted to the west and is blowing even harder which will help dry things out everywhere...got some sunshine between squalls too.

well...perhaps doing laundry was a bit optimistic today...the wind picked up again so all the clean towels blew off the line...sheesh...but the sun is shining now and got most of the houses mopped & drying out.

I heard the road was fine by the way.

Reports are that there's been constant rain, but traffic continues to flow both north and south through El Rosario as of mid-day today.
