Skip,
Thanks for your theory :light:....but the evidence is that this guy was abusive before the trip started (domestic violence issues in California).

It's not quite that he is "having a bad day" :?:

As others have said....for some people, "this is as good as it gets":(

Does anyone know exactly where this family is - now - today?

They can not be in Mexican waters legally.

There must be some office that would be able to handle this situation - for the sake of the kids.

The wife must be as nuts as the father, but the kids don't deserve this.

What can we do to help or resolve this situation?

Our best course of action is to locate the boat and the kids.

As soon as their location is known, someone needs to contact the grandmother and inform her of the location and have her get in contact with the US Consulate/Mexican authorities (customs, immigration, DIF). Didn't someone post (originally) that there were possibly warrants out for the "father"???

Let the proper authorities make the determination as to the disposition.

IF she is the victim of spousal abuse, she may be acting in a rather predictable way out of fear. She will not turn on her husband if she fears for herself and for her children. She is apt to defend him as it is not uncommon for the victims to blame themselves. But crazy or abused, it all sounds out of whack.

I would have liked to believe they were just off for a family adventure that would be a great experience for the kids, but it is sounding less and less like that is the case. I hope someone down there will call the authorities --- not sure which ones would be the correct ones to involve.

a trimaran with no name tried to sail away this morning but due to light winds the boat was sailing close to Los Chorros where Juan noticed and alerted me. I tried hailing them on the radio but no one answered.

The man managed to anchor and he is watching Juan (who is on the beach) through the binoculars. Juan did see 2 kids come topside which is good as the other boat anchored in the bay only reported seeing a single man sailing today.

So I imagine this is the boat in question. The winds are supposed to be very light the next couple days so they may have trouble sailing out of here and missing the rocks at Abreojos...they need to go offshore a ways.

There is someone calling the Armada de Mexico to investigate to see if they are OK. It appears they were boarded by the navy frigate this morning too.

We will keep you posted. We are trying to contact the mom as well to keep her in the loop....

If they are still here tomorrow morning, maybe Juan can swing by and see if they need anything like water or food or a taxi?

If I can do anything from Lopez - still a long way south, Shari, let me know. I'm happy to help how ever - even if only financially to help get the kids north.

U2U me if necessary.

This is unbelievable!!! Where do they think they're going???

Aren't heavy fogs rather possible this time of year down by Mag Bay, Almejas, etc.? It's a transitional season.

Rescuing the mom and kids now could save their lives. Mexican Navy could do this I hope.

we just got home from the naval base here in town and tomorrow the frigate will look for the vessel & do an inspection and assess the situation.

And as a back up, Juan will swing by in the early morning before he starts hauling on YT...just to say hi and offer to put the family up so they can spend xmas ashore and have some fun.

I'm sure we can figure out how to get them north if that's what they want to do...stay tuned
