Worry about bad hombres on Mainland, not Baja.

??? I sure read a lot more accounts of random disappeared people and burnt-out vehicles in Baja than on the mainland. There's definitely hot spots to avoid on the mainland, but plenty of safe areas, too. Of course, very few places in the the world are guaranteed safe. You can be unlucky enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time anywhere.
And worrying is always pointless. Staying informed and keeping your wits about you, not doing dumb things like driving at night and changing your plans if it seems warranted.

Yes to disappearances in Baja. Not aware of burned vehicles and hot spots in Baja. Where are they? (Places I avoid re cops: Mexicali, Tecate, TJ. Places I can't avoid re cops: CC

And, yes to areas to avoid on Mainland. No areas to avoid in Baja. Are there? (Well, I'd avoid TJ but that's me.)

US Marines: providing enemies of America an opportunity to die for their country since 1775.

What I say before any important decision.
F*ck it.

No areas to avoid in Baja? Isn't that exactly what this thread is about, an area to avoid in Baja?

Not aware of burned-out vehicles in Baja? Have you just missed all the threads on this forum talking about those incidents?

this post just told you of a hot spot to avid, San Felipe! Other hot spots to avoid: several neighborhoods in TJ, rosarito, rural areas around mexicali, much of mexicali, valle trinidad, clandestine pot farms (some of the valleys with permanent water flows), just about all rural areas after dark,...

re burned vehicles,... in the news periodically. there are frequent car jackings at night.

On my way south from Mexicali yesterday, I observed at least a dozen or more police vehicles headed north in groups of three or four vehicles, and two military trucks with troops on board.

I pulled off the highway well north of San Felipe in a spot I have camped at before. It is well off the road, and the only fresh tracks were from animals.

I gassed up at the Pemex, and was going to shop at Calimax, but it was way overcrowded. I did a loop through town, intending to use the WIFI at a restraunt that I like, but it was closed.

Everything else seemed normal, but crowded. I notice quite a few police vehicles, but nothing that would normaly draw my attention.

I am at La Poma right now using their WIFI and having a delishous lunch. I don't need urban drama on my Baja trips!

If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

Here's a recent one.

I do agree about people asking "is it safe?" No one can guarantee anyone's safety anywhere. There are random acts of violence everywhere. And if other countries put out warnings about areas in the US with high rates of violent crime, no one would ever travel there.

A couple I know who had a small house in a bustling little Mexican tourist town told me their friends and family thought they were "so brave" to vacation in Mexico and told them "We pray for you every day you're there". Their friends were firmly convinced that tourists getting gunned down on the street is a daily occurance everywhere and that vacationing in Mexico is surely risking your life.

For all the pearl grabbers, you are good. The info is there was a note note on the bodies with a drawing of a piece of pizza. "Piece of the pie" it is cartel. Extortion. Feel better now. ???? Still a chit reason.

The video released on social media was cartel announcing curfew to be enforced by cartel.
The politician said this was fake news.
Who you gonna believe? Video creator of freediverbrian/mayor?

Me? I never saw the video nor stated there was one and it was likely in spanish anyway which I would not have watched as I'm not fluent enough to follow a spanish video. I can barely read and communicate in spanish but I do try.

Ok so the video does not exist. I live close to Oakland, Richmond, and san Francisco. Murders happen daily. I just want to see the cartel threat video.
