I like Ensenada. As Hose A mentioned the real Ensenada is off the beaten path. There are a thousand things to do in this town that the normal tourist will never discover. Let them stay on Lopez Mateos.

3 months. But my wife grew up here and I lived and worked here eight years ago while we were going through the process of getting married and the whole immigration process. Which took over two years.

I personally doubt if there is more than 5 minutes difference in the two.

I'll bet it's more like 15, more in heavy traffic. You've got all those stop signs and lights you don't have via the tourist route.

It goes without saying...if you can hit this route between1:00 and 5 all the lights are blinking and traffic is nill. It makes a huge difference in travel time.

We always go the tourist route and turn left at the entrance to the Navy Base then right at the Gigante. Have tried going straight past the Navy Base entrance and curve left, but it sure get's stinky over there. Seems to always be leaking sewage around that route - stinky - stinky - smelly and then more smelly!
