Before that, Bob y Susan...they look like this..

I am holding with my lifelong buddy, Randy, a Canada goose...and Bajajudy, that really was a common coot in your photo, which, while being very much a camera ham and a great paddler, should not to be confused with a specklebelly, which is the best eating wild goose in the world. And on the other hand the lowly coot is ... well..let's say epicurianally handicapped? (Now that's a 50 cent word!)

UPDATE

Talked to guide and friend in San Quintin today and have previously spoken with Rolando @ Wlidlife Advisory Services: http://www.mexicoadvisoryservices.com/index.html

Concensus: Well it is mid October and UMA still has not issued any Brandt tags to anyone! Nor have season dates been established, just the promise of a much shorter season.

When I know more I will post more. There are quail tags available for San Telmo hunting with Alfredo Meling. Might do that too.

Also no longer requiring police letters to get military gun permits and sounds like crossing the border with guns and ammo and proper permits has gotten much easier.

UMA

Still has not issued tags for brandt hunting this season in San Quintin Bay. Still waiting to hear if and when.

There are problems which I have no doubt will be solved the old fashioned way soon.

Yo Jorge,

When I first read the post I though it said "bandit" hunting.

My first thought was...Cool! I guess that means I have hunting dogs too!

Cute pup! Hopefully I'll get to meet him soon!

You guys know nothing beats a good dog for a good hunt...

That's my chocolate, Cheyenne..getting to be a big dog after her initial quail training in Baja and did well for me on sharptails and partridge. Holds her point and let's me flush. Her buddy did an excellent job also for owner, Jim.

brant

According to my field guide there is no D in brant.

I spelled it with a D for a long time, but I have reason to believe now that that has always been incorrect.

Judy has a photo of a coot.

A recipe for branDt

Pompano et all,

Years ago an Italian couple came into my farmstand and asked if I could harvest them some artichoke stalks. They did not want artichokes, they wanted stalks and they were so cute I complied with their request, wondering what the heck they were going to do with those tough, stringy, sappy, prickly stems.

I politely asked them why they wanted these things? They replied to eat.

Of course I asked how in the world could you possibbly prepare these to eat.

The answer, and it works on everything, branDt included:

Batter IT and Deep Fry It!

I sit corrected, they are brant geese, and i know they aren't Canadian either!

Jorge
