Several years ago the owner of my campo Don Octavio Dagnino was at the Islas Encantadas alone in his panga when the engine wouldnt start (a panga with a bad outboard....you must be kidding!) He was forced to stay on Isla Salvatierra (or San Luis depending on whos map you are reading) for several days with no food. The wind was very bad and he was forced to eat seagulls. He told me the story one day at the islands during one of my many "learning" trips with the local pangeros. I instantly made the joke

"Did it tast like chicken!!!:lol::lol:
'

He just looked at me serious like he could not find the humor and said matter of factly

"No....it tastes like fish....."

And thats the only guy I know who ate a seagull.:barf:

Mary Ann and I were in the south of England on an extended trip many years ago. We went out for dinner to a small cafe and ordered chicken. When it arrived it had the configuration of what you'd imagine a plucked seagull would and tasted strongly like fish. We ate with reservation.

Several days later, somewhere near Dover and during an exceptionally hot spell weather-wise we ordered pork chops. When they arrived I took a bite and the pork tasted old. Mary Ann was just about to take her first bite before I stopped her. There was a live maggot inching its way across the slice of pork she was about to eat.

But the evening didn't end badly. We went back to our hotel, threw up, and went to the bar to cleanse our systems out with single malt Scotch. A perfect ending to a questionable evening along Dover?s white cliffs.

You know, I'm not going go much further on this subject, but quite frankly, I glad my pristine view of Percebu lagoon has been restored minus the ship wreck. To the Ebay sponser - Dude, if you are going to set a reserve and try to get coin, don't make it so obvious with someone you know raising the bid price! $15k! Dude, quite frankly, any $$ would be appreciated for this trip which is very ill advised. I don't care what names such as National Geo or whatever are tossed out or what has been done in the past. I looked at his "boat" carefully. When Neutrino stopped me on the beach asking for motor oil for his outboards, I knew it was all over!

Chris, it sure nice that he got past Shell Island with that thing, huh?

A dead whale on that beach is bad enough, but a hippie's shipwreck would be disasterous for the area's ecology!:yes::O:rolleyes::barf:

Playing Tunes

No doubt he probably was playing tunes for donations in San Felipe. I know for a fact that he was in Rancho Percebu the two days before he left. I had seen him and his motley crew down at the entrance to the campo sitting around with their musical instruments so I asked what was going on and that was it. Trying to score some last minute bucks. His DVD of the Atlantic crossing includes a couple of the familys musical exploits in New Orleans. Suffice to say, they couldn't make a living as musicians.

Pompano, great pic. or painting of the old man from Mulege. How would a person go about getting one of them? I have seen several framed pictures of him in others palapas. Yours is my favorite.
