Mood: Dreaming of Baja

Now that was a slideshow!!! I'm only halfway thru but I had to stop and comment. Those are some awesome pics. Love the Pelican on rock at sunrise. Oh and the Jeeps are great too (coming from owner of 89 XJ 3.5" Rubicon Mfg lift and 1953 M38A1 with 327 Chevy).
Ken is that your flattie in the garage (some pic I saw relating to this trip....I think). Let me tell you from experience....there is nothing like driving a 50 yr old military jeep with original military leaf springs on the road from San Felipe to Gonzaga Bay!!!
Thanks for sharing

We were parked at the New Pemex in San Felipe when this old flattie was driven up to the pump. I pulled up next to it and we asked if we could take pictures next to it. THe owner was flattered and we had a blast!

Russ Chung's Photobucket album

Russ Chung's photobucket slideshow

In order to keep the files within Photobucket's size limits, I split up my slideshows into four parts and my videos into two parts. Here's the link to the slideshows and videos:

http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Baja%202006/

Baja2006part1 - slideshow of photos of Tijuana, El Rosario, Mision Santa Maria and Catavina
Baja2006part2 - slideshow of photos from Bay of Los Angeles and Bay of Las Animas
Baja2006part3 - slideshow of photos from Coco's Corner and Gonzaga Bay
Baja2006part4 - slideshow of photos of the Sea of Cortez and San Felipe
InboundMissionImpossible1 - videos of us going down the Mission Impossible trail enroute to Mision Santa Maria
OutboundMissionImpossible - videos of us climbing the Mission Impossible trail returning from Mision Santa Maria

The web slideshows are not as sharp as the original photos, so I've uploaded higher resolution copies of the individual photos to the web. You can download them by opening them to full size, then right clicking on the photos. Here's the link to the individual photos:

Holy cow! - you guys were parked for a couple of nights right behind my house at La Ventana campground in Bay of LA! - Didn't get a chance to meet but a couple of you - I'd have to say, for such a large group, you were the quietest, most considerate group that has ever camped there!! - Next time let me know when you will be in town! - Marv

Sure looks like it was a 'fun' trip....

...A buddy stopped by my shop yesterday to show me his new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara (4-door model)...I have to admit I was impressed with the fit and finish, and extensive list of goodies on his new Metallic Green rig!

Jeep has sure come a long way with the creature comforts in recent years, while maintaining it's off-road capabilities!

The new V-6 should be an improvement, along with the heavier drive train - improved Dana live axles with a beefier transfer case, u-joints, etc' The Rubicon has lower ratio, 4L gears for some real rock-crawling use - also the electrical front sway bar disconnect and locking diff's, front and rear!

The Sahara trimmed model even has power windows!

My buddy paid just over $27K (Dealer Inv +$500) with all the goodies (except nav system) included.

I've never been a 'Jeep Guy', but must say I was impressed with this rig! Take a look...

Something about paying $27K for a vehicle just hurts my soul!:( Now if it had vertical-lift capabilities and fish-cleaning components?:bounce:

Marv, we'll be back in '07. The owner of La Ventana was easy to work with, he plans to expand his operation soon, and our group will easily double in '07 to 20 rigs. Also, they trained us well up in Guadalupe Canyon - "Hey, Seniores!! No Musica!!!" :smug:

Ken,

Nice pix. Thanks for posting them.

We've back in Idaho from Pta Bufeo for a few days (Now where's the wisdom in that decision???), and I'm finally catching up on threads and stories.

Did any of your group drive out to Bufeo? I remember seeing a couple of Jeeps cruising by slowly and tossing them a wave, but it may not have been your caravan.

Its likely you saw some ppl from our group. When we hit BoLA, we were literally everywhere: Animas, La Gringa Point, downtown, the Pemex station, the beach past Lobo's property (the Chihuahua's got a kick out of that :O), etc...

Likewise. You're a great guy and I can't wait to visit you when we get back to San Felipe sometime in '07.
