Mucho curioso! |
It didn't go to where I had waypoints - but I had a track. I unclicked the track and it still gave the same tour. I'll try the new one now.

This one - play the trour - it starts in Mulege, backs out then zooms to south end of BoC, stays a few seconds then back to Mulege

That works Don. Another way is to create a path like this -

On the right track now
Don's tour does work though I see no close-ups with a 2d overhead view. Don try turning on the "terrain" feature.
Dogs; the path works and is zoomed in but is a straight overhead view. My goal is to find a solution for the 3d tours.
It's interesting that the latest kmz I made did not perform on your machines properly. With that said, it's probably wise to keep exploring ways in
which we can all utilize and enjoy these features and files collectively. I think part of the problem(s) may lie in the setup on our own machines. Not
only does the speed of your computer matter but so does the software version and also the internet connection speed. Not to mention all the "option"
features available. I tried it with dial-up last night. Man did that take awile!
I found it very odd that my laptop version would only see the starting point of the tour. We have a ways to go with this.
One problem might be the way I generated the file with the 3d feature on. I notice with Don's that both my machines can follow that path with no
probs. Same with Bdogs. Dang, I'll explore new settings. If only the tours could be sped up. Hey they can be! DUH!

That is great Don,
It went way too fast at first. We all need to adjust our settings.
Sharks, you've probably figured this out by now but here is what I did -
Under TOOLS/OPTIONS/TOURS there are 2 sections. The first is for a tour like what Don posted. I had to slow down my fly-to setting. The second
"Driving Directions - Route" controls how you view a path like what I uploaded. I set Tilt Angle to 60 degrees and it was cool with me.
I'm getting airsick... taking a little break

Good one Don. Yes it works fine just like the one I made. I notice that it has different icons(thumbpin). Don I wonder if it's an issue with this
particular beta version. Maybe a compatability prob. I'll see if I can upgrade to an equivalent Windows ver.
When you open the file I made BOC_tour.kmz where does it place the file? In the temporary section or does it make a new file directory in "My
Places"? The file structure is identical to the one you just made. Does mine appear the same way on your program? Thanks.
Thanks Dogs, Yea I'm familiar with that stuff. What version and system do you run?

Windows XP with Google Earth Version 4.0.2737
Mac OS X with the latest version OS and Google Earth
I've noticed very little difference as far as GE functionality from one system to the other, pleasantly consistent.

Sharks,. I use the "Open..." under the "File" menu to load a downloaded file, yours or my tests. The files show up in the "Temporary Places" file.
One of the things I want to find out: You can adjust the speed through the "Preferences" options. If I create a file at a certain speed, do those
attributes attach themselves to the file I create for uploading? I think so, but I have too many things going on right now to dig to dep into this.

Yep Don it does work that way. Not only that but the way you create the file dictates the way it will behave when executed. There are other neat
features and options as well. I am working with map overlays and programming trips for later use. Given the ability to cache the entire hi-res file is
so cool because it means(I already do this) that you can use these kmz files when NO INTERNET is available and as long as you've completely cached the
trip with zoomed in points..
The other neat thing here is the GPS interface function. Overlay imported waypoints or memorized data. Layers of maps, info, locations notes etc. can
all be accessed readily.
I looking at giving this new setup the offroad test soon.

I don't think so Don. It seems the viewing angle for each placemark is saved, but the fly-to speed, tour speed, tour pause time are all set by the
individual computers' Options (PC), Preferences (Mac). Keep the virtual tours coming, I'll adjust accordingly.

really?? I changed the angle and it had no effect whatsoever on the way it approached and viewing stayed the same. Curious. Oh I see what you are saying Dogs but why does mine run exactly as I had made it,
aside from the speed settings.
I made this one go round and round. Too much fun!!

This works fine on my HP laptop. The tour starts around Mulage and ends up on the southend of Bahia Conception.
