Hola,
Man this board is awesome!
Where else can you learn how to stain your cracked cement patio, rent a house for the weekend, find out which tire is best for hitting the road, find
a secret surf spot, laugh at someone who wears a banana hammock and actually thinks its cool, learn a killer croaker stew recipe, ogle at some
seriously good landscape photography, buy wicked books, learn about great restaurants in every nook and cranny of the peninsula and later astonish
your friends with your "insider knowledge", feel the green monster within as you realize some get to explore from the air!!, have a package delivered
to your door from 1000 miles away for the price of a Pacifico (ok a Ballena!), get directions to a pristine swimming hole in the middle of the desert,
learn about cement , watch in nervous wonder as some go for their dreams... and
make it happen!, fishing holes, road conditions, hurricanes, paleterias, tacos, chelas, you guys rock!!! Thank you so much for all the help.

I think Forrest Gump's mom probably said it best.
Still, I wouldnt mind reading what the actual owner and the moderator think about this instead of someone speaking for them..............AGAIN !!!!!!!
David, why do you do this? Why do you always feel the need to answer questions that are best left answered by the persons responsible?
I actually think it's gotten MORE civil over the last couple months. It seems to follow a pattern: when it's the off season for travel in Baja, it's
in-season for bickering.
Of course, the OFF-Topic board has it's own seasoning.................
However, I do feel a great affinity for many on this board, in terms of interests and goals and life experiences, etc. With so many commonalities, I
think it would be valuable to be able to share other portions of my life with people on this board that arent related to Baja or Mexico. An off-topic
board would be a good avenue for this but, well, you see how that's gone. I will occasionally post something that is not political over
there.............but it never gets any interest.
I either need to get a more interesting life or find some other similar sites...........but I doubt I'll find one as good with the West Coat angle
this one has.
Life is like a box of chocolates. You gonna stop eating chocolates, just cause you got the gross cherry with the cream squirt at the end????
And in case Hook is your "cherry with the squirt" on this board.....apologies.
And in case you actually LIKE the cherries with the squirt, well, there's no hope for you.

Nothing holds long term interest in OT. It's a place for drive-bys. I think of it as a kind of mental bowel elimination. Hopefully it doesn't last
long and when you're done, you're done.

This must be somewhat common on message boards. I belong to another and several people have made public "dumping of the board" posts because they
didn't like this person or that thread.
Well its a free world(mostly) so people can do what ever they want. Some will join and some will leave and that is what makes the world go round.
I've made a few friends here and others I enjoy there posts. Some I could care less about.
For the most part I've gained much more than whatever perceived losses I might have suffered(none).
So if you feel it necessary to move on don't let the keyboard hit you in the a$$ on your way out of the internet. It doesn't really matter if you
leave. Someone will be along shortly to take your place. (not you JESSE! I like your posts and the connection to La Paz).
And for lurkers who have had the courage to go all the way to places like B. Asunsion but won't post because they're afraid of getting their feelings
hurt... GROW A PAIR!!!
Nothing on here can really hurt you.
And Dennis you better not quit!

Hose,
I don't think there is anyone on this board nasty enough to chase Dennis off.
But, if you want me to, I give it a shot.

Although I post in the other forums my favorites are to read the trip reports and to share and see others' photos in the photo gallery - this is where
I most often find real Baja experiences that I enjoy most ...
greg
I recently posted this photo on Mia's BOLA message board - ahhhh Baja:

As a newcomer to this board I say that the good outweighs the bad. For the good Aq states the case well (though I have no clue at the moment what the
green monster is ) (on second thought as I write - envy - must be envy - how
true if that's what Aq means - I felt a little last night as I looked at E.S.Gardner's little helicopter). The bad? There doesn't seem to be much of
it. I notice a few blank spaces here and there which I suppose are deleted posts. What remains is often funny.
Its harder when posting to have a balanced give and take because there aren't the visual clues to help tell how a comment is made - in jest or to
wound. The smilies help a lot and a basic assumption that its all in fun does too.
Personally, as a new arrival, I am sad to see some of the "elders" preparing to leave. Makes me think I came in at the end of the "golden age"
\"I could not help concluding this man had the most supreme pleasure while he was driven so fast and so smoothly by the sea.\"

We will miss all you grumpy people who take life much too seriously. We'll miss your clever banter, your unique points of view. We'll get along
somehow. We'll just keep putting up pictures, asking questions, having a few laughs, making mistakes, learning......... You can watch the whole thing.
You're always welcome back but it is suggested you lighten up, lay down your burdens -- life (and message communities) is/are short.

Everybody has stated their two cents...well here is a couple nickles...this board is growing and is this picture of health and if all the lurkers
chimed in at once even the whiners would smile...if you leave you will miss the best of all. I believe this board is being monitored by the Mexican
government and we are contributing to some changing of policies...idealistic maybe, but possible.
I also believe Baja Nomads will evolve into a large conduit for better culture exchange. The few people who get their toes stepped on and get nasty
will never change the direction of the Nomads...Those of you who believe the Nomads should be only one directional and have no diversity...well I
think you will see, we are to big and moving to fast. At this point in time the Baja Nomads have the best of all worlds....Viva Baja Nomads...a
special thanks to Doug and Gene for seeing we are all different, flawed, and special.

I did want Hook to know that I had a sense of humor... But, I was responding about the Amigos de Baja comments mentioned above... I did know why it
died.
Doug had set up this forum a year earlier and I called Doug to make sure he could handle the Amigos traffic, as 'we' needed a new home... With Doug's
OK, I sent out emails with the good news to those who hadn't yet registered on Nomad or know where the 'Amigos' new home would be.
About my answering many questions:
Too many think that there is some kind of limit as to how much can be posted... that if I provide an answer, it somehow prevents anyone else from
answering too. This is not so.
Often a question will be ignored or missed, and answers are important. The more answers, the more known or revealed... more is better than less.

I sincerly hope that the Mexican Goverment is monitoring this site. The views represented here are a pretty good cross section of the people who love
Baja. Monitoring this site would provide a very good insight into the views and attitudes of most of the people from the USofA who have either moved
to Baja or visit there.
If they are monitoring this site they will have learned that we love Baja and Mexico.
If they are monitoring this site they will have learned that we do not like the crime and corruption that we experience in Baja or for that matter in
Mexico and that we would wish to see a criminal justice system that is free of corruption.
We would like to see police as our friends and not be in fear of them and their bribes.
We would like to know that we can safely drive anywhere in Baja and not be afraid of armed robbers who are mascarading as or are police.
We would like to know that we can safely purchase property in Mexico and not be swindled by unscrupulous people within the goverment. We would like to
see the consumer protected from unethical transactions.
We would hope that by reading this site they will have learned that we will boycot Mexico if these issues are not addressed and that there is indeed a
connection between the behavior or corrupt police and municipal officials and tourism. Clean it up and people come, let it rot in corruption and
people will spend their money other places. TJ once cleaned up it's city under a reform mayor and tourism to TJ increased. Now there is fear of the
safety of the streets and cities and tourism is down.
We hope that if they have been monitoring this site that they will have learned that empty words about things getting better will not change this,
only real change in the administration of justice will change bring the tourists back.
I sincerly hope that this site is monitored by the Mexcian Goverment and that they are listening well.
Viva Mexico.

This is a problem that is also found outside the BajaNomad. The board merely reflects the changing of our culture which has turned decidedly abusive
and rude in recent times.
We need to get a couple of things clear here: Whereas I am liberal and do not like to see censorship, The BajaNomad is a privately established entity
with a set of rules that the owner and moderators have every right to enforce. It is their vision and that vision attempts to reflect the greater
mores of a predominately civil society. On the other hand, there are classless individuals who are bullies and cannot find any other way to
express their inadequacies, other than to be rude, crude and belittle others. When they attack me, I will deal with it.....or not. I prefer they not
be censored but if they are, that is OK with me.
Most Nomads are good people who love to exchange Baja experiences and knowledge. Their help is given generously and warmly welcomed. Those who would
like to attack and offend would never be welcomed to my house nor join me for dinner in a nice restaurant. Their surly spirit of exclusion only serves
to get them excluded. Why would I want to share any time with such bores? |
I'm a Conservative, and I think that ToneArt has it exactly right. Your the man!!! Tony.
