Remember, Gull, this is the civil side of the board. I asked if you had some defense of your statement that DUI was cool. Apparently you don't and I reserve the right to disrespect you for your original statement. Your personal insults are inappropriate.

Relative to my living in a "bung hole", as opposed to a place the US government warns people not to visit, I can say this:

I flush my toilet with better water than you can buy in a bottle where you live, and I only lock my doors when I go on vacation. Bung hole indeed.

I calmly, respectfully, and confidently rest my case.

The Palms - is that the place that used to be called the Palmira? I remember it as a great, funky place, with great Lobster Bisque. Left my wallet there with a bunch of cash and all my credit cards one night, figured it out once I got back home to San Diego. Went back in the middle of the night (actually early hours of the AM, the cops woke up the Dueno, who had my wallet -- intact.

Went back a few years back and found a fancy place with a bunch of ... well, let's just say the crowd had changed.

The food is still good? Do they still make the Lobster Bisque?

Is the Palm Grill the former Palmira?

Yes, I believe it is, but I only know it as the Palm Grill, when we started going there eight years ago. (Talking about the big palapa hut building standing right there at the Cantamar/Primo Tapia exit off the pay road.

All the food is consistently good to excellent and the core wait staff and bartenders have been there for most of those eight years, which I would guess says something about the place.

And yes, there is a very good lobster bisque, served with a puff pastry crown.

Over the years, we've pretty much tried everything on the menu - breakfast, lunch and dinner and I cannot think of any disappointing meals.

And, as far as being honest and safeguarding a lost wallet and the contents - yes, absolutely. That happened with us.

Thanks for the update. I walked in once, and was kind of turned off by the changes, and left. Sounds like I need to go back.

The exchange rate at most places including banks last Friday was at 10.25 - 10.35. That is off from the lofty point of 11.0 seen earlier this year. It doesn't compare to the free fall condition seen around 1987-88 or the one from the early 1990's.

Let it be noted that Gull opened this thread pleasantly and remained civil for several posts.

You guys switched to Off-Top tactics on your own, with no provocation whatsoever.

Ah come on Lera...I would be PROVOKED by the notion that drinking three or four ounces of hard liquor prepared one for a drive in a car even if I WAS a drinker. And, you don't have to be the Gull to get me so say so. I haven't done off-topic for almost a year...maybe the zebra has changed his stripes.:P

My mistake. From reading posts on this board, I had somehow assumed that DWIM [Driving While Imbibing Margaritas] was a basic Nomad trait. .

Lera,

I was encouraging people to come to Baja to enjoy some of the places and things that whizz by the window too often when they come down. If they cannot open their minds to the possibilities, it is their loss. The extreme lack of Gringo visitor while a blessing in many ways, is still hurting the average local in what was already a marginal quality of life.

Extra bonus points to you for reading my posts and concluding that there are bad boys who must act like children on this section of the board. The board monitoring normally gets them wiped off before long. But the attacks continue under the thin veils of some self justified "convictions".

For many months there was the incessant rehashing of US newspaper tripe over sporatic Baja major crime incidents over more than a year of locals on locals. Worse occur daily in the US. When I raised the spectrum of the involvement of the US in the drug demand and the world's leader in violent crime, I got the label of anti-American and cowardly piling on became the norm on the board.

As Orwell put it, "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others". I recall the sheep chanted that repeatedly at the end of the book. There appears to be a hierarchy that has to happen when people gather, even to exchange ideas, like on this board. Lera, do you hear the Baa? A "dyed in the wool" proselytizer with the thin moral argument centered on only one person, is transparent to even the blind.

Do you mean that it's actually LEGAL to drive in Baja without a properly prepared margarita or an open chilled cerveza on the dashboard ???

Hard to believe.
