I don't mind if you hijack my thread- I wasn't doing very well with it anyway. Maybe we could think of a name for the new "Forum" and ask ncely that
it be added. It would just be a temporaory thing of course until all the bad things stop and Mexico is reborn- Dec 21, 2012 (I think).

Actually Canada issues a visa at the airport when you arrive. I've never heard of food stamps or free apartments...and I have many mexican friends who
emigrated there and wouldn't return to mexico for anything, they are married to canadian men. Many of them have opened their own business there and
are doing well.
Just a question for fulano-wooooosh...why dont you could post some scary stories about things that happen everyday in the states..so those of us who
like to live in baja can thank our lucky stars we dont live THERE! and maybe will cancel our travel plans in case something bad happens to us
there....and maybe some mexicanos will read it and stay here.

Wooosh did just that here:

..and if that doesn't scare you away from the US, just read all the off-topic threads on Obama.

Don't know, the week or two before he dissapeared on June 25 he pulled or edited ten of my posts and closed a couple of threads.
I think he went crazy with the overload of trying to be a god.
I saw other comments of "what happened to my post" from several people around that time.
He used to be kind of cool and I thought even fair but then something happenened

Let's see how long before some moderator pulls this post

I can't speak for fulano. I post about crime here because there is no other news outlet for us in Rosarito. The truth will set you free!
I also post because Mexico is disengenuous. They have a welcome mat out and always say it is safe- no matter what happens in truth. The USA doesn't
encourage tourism with a veil of safety like Mexico does- That's the difference to me.
The crimes targeting Americans specifically are unfortunately common here. When have organized groups of American thugs targeted Mexican toursits?
You can say there is crime on both sides which is true- but until American thugs start committing crimes against Mexican tourists in the USA-
specifically becasue they are Mexicans- there is no correlation IMHO.

FYI - Mexican day laborers are targeted quite often in the states for muggings and robberies just because the thought is they are/may be illegal
immigrants and thus not going to goto the law about the crime. Most of these guys get paid in cash, so they make great targets for the crooks.
Besides the targeting of day laborors.. tourist are regularly singled out in San Francisco. They are easy to spot. It's June... cold, foggy, windy,
and 62 degrees out... look for the people in sun hats wearing shorts and flip flops because California is sunny.. right?..
Tourists, travelers, and immigrants get targeted all over the world. If you stand out from the herd, your going to be more of a target to the
wolves.. it's just how it is.

Exactly right. But we are talking American tourists specifically being targeted here while the host governement invites you down and then denies,
denies and denies they are at risk. Thugs carjacking people in nice cars on the toll road at night for example. Mexico says it is 100% safe here for
tourists and that tourists aren't the targets. That's where I have the problem. The illegals preying on each other in the USA (which is usually the
case) is sad- but when you sleep with dogs you catch fleas.
Eight americans on average have their cars stolen every day in TJ alone. When they get back to the border to report the crime they are not treated
sympathetically at all by the border agents. More often they are told "they got what they deserved for going to Mexico in the first place" and to go
to McDonadls to use their pay phone to call for help..
Mexcio blames the USA for all the guns coming in, but won't even consider checking every car at the border checkpoints like the USA does. What's up
with that?

Canada has many social programs to provide new immigrants with apartments, food stamps and the free socialized health care all Canadians love/hate-
while they are getting settled in. Our friend asked for politcal asylum based on the violence in Mexico and it was GRANTED. Maybe that class of people
gets more benefits.
Canada is land rich but needs more people. The past decade has seen mostly immigrants (to BC at least) coming from the Pacific Rim.

to live here. |
Everyone? Canada yes, the United States no? Interesting.

The Mexican people need to take control of their country and politics, no one can do this for them. We cannot begin to live until we recognize the
fact that we are going to die! It all depend on how you want to die and what you want your life to mean.
As long as the Spanish people continue to turn a blind eye to their nations politics and sit with their hands out waiting for someone else to fix it,
this is the situation they should get used to.
I find it curious that you would make a statement like "We (USA citizens) can leave the area" whilst sitting in the protective bosom of a gated
community no less.
Rather then wondering how the average Mexican feels you should probably ask and try and help them before you run home to the security the USA
provides. Just something to ponder them since your enjoying their country.
As long as the Mexican government continues to produce narcotics, we as American are content to let them. This way we can justify our "war on drugs"
and the money machine that it is! It sad but true.
Mexico is a beautiful place with untapped resources, however they need to be able to (as a nation) pull their head out of the dark ages. unfortunately
sooner or later it will take an occupying force to do so because the Spanish people won't do it themselves.
A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both.
Dwight D. Eisenhower
