As with most everything in Mex, there
rarely is a difinative answer.
Lewis and Lewis, as posted, offers a
annual liability of $300,000 at $123
a yr. That is quite a bit of coverage.
Some of the lower quotes for
insurance have as low as $50,000 csl,
That amount in my opinion is too low.
Other popular brokers offer $100,000
coverage for $280 yr. Go figure.
One Mex Ins Co that I've read
positively about is 'Genworth'.
The question I have, is the Lewis and
Lewis Co. for $123 as responsive
as the $280 Co.? I would not buy a policy
with $50,000 |
Ok, I did a straight liability policy with three of the recommended brokers.
Baja bound had only $150,000 liability limit,
Lewis and Lewis had $300,000
Sanborns had $300,000
I think that $300,000 is the minimum I would consider.
Legal coverage, which I consider mandatory is sketchy at best. Baja Bound says check with the policy,
Lewis and Lewis had $75,000
Sanborn has legal but $20,000 bond only
Medical payments to other party.
Baja Bound has $5,000 per person $25,000 total
Lewis and Lewis $5,000 per person $25,000 total
Sanborn has $10,000 per and $50,000 total
Prices are roughly:
Baja Bound $281.35
Lewis and L $123.00
Sanborn $289.08
Lewis and Lewis is selling a policy underwritten by Qualitas, while Baja Bound and Sanborn is selling a policy by Genworth.
Since I have received a couple of U2U's I thought it might prove helpful to post this info as how I start looking for policies and how to compare
the basics.
I have personally used Lewis and Lewis for the last 10 years because of the coverage offered.

Hello Pescador,
Just to clear up a bit of that info.....
Baja Bound does actually offer liability limits from 50K all the way up to 300K. It just depends on what policy and underwriter you select, since we
work with two - Genworth Seguros and ACE Seguros. Our most basic liability policy starts at $140.53 which includes legal aid, bail bond, and roadside
assistance.
The legal aid we offer is different for each underwriter, and has a number of variations in coverage depending on the situation (accident, theft,
bodily injury, etc..) but generally speaking, the limit for bond is $30,000, and legal aid is either totally covered (no limit) or covered up to the
liability limit you select for the policy.
The medical payments you mention above are actually for the occupants of the insured vehicle, not the other (third) party. Medical expenses for third
parties are included in the liability coverage amounts. As an example, a liability policy of $150,000 would cover you for any damages to third
parties, be it property or medical expenses, up to the amount of $150,000.
Diana, who started this post, called our office earlier this week. She wanted the bare minimum amount of liability coverage available at the cheapest
price, and had been quoted $88 from Bernies. Since our policies had the additional features she was not interested in, and was obviously more
expensive, I told her that Bernies was probably the best fit for her needs.
If anyone has more detailed questions, feel free to ask or send me a U2U. There are a variety of insurance options out there to suit everyones
particular needs or situation, and I would be happy to point you in the right direction.

Jim, are your examples for liability attached to a driver's license, a specific vehicle or does it matter?

Well, good...I was just about to go out to the car and get my policy for Bernie's info. He was head of the Cruz Roja..still may be, and the head of
the shooting club (and in the background of one those pictures I posted a while back.) Good guy and his office staff speaks English.
Mom always told me to be different - Now she says...Not THAT different
