This seems to be another case of a well read College Student, taking the Words from other well read College Students and trying to past it off as "Facts".

All it is, is a good collection of Words.

I don't think any clergymen have ever been to Heaven, yet they always seem to pass off the whole concept of joining the Heavenly Father as "facts".

What purpose, besides the obvious commercial value that Mr. BillM states, would the media have to deliberately report untruths? One negative consequence is that, with repetition and constant reinforcement, is it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I'll bite. Its only my guess but I would say that reporting with a violent/fear angel on border issues serves their purposes. Either way, one should accept that what is reported is what the editors and publishers and owners want to see reported so within that theater.

Q. why would they exaggerate violence on the border?
A. It serves the increasing police/military industrial complex justification of increased budgets, suggest a problem to be addressed by policing expenditures, reduce the number of US citizens leaving the USA with tax dollars, reduce energy use through travel. Increase fear and tension between races in order to divide the masses create conflict.

All of these above give strength to the increasing military/policing budgets while decreasing overall peace-minded and social cost cutting policies.

In summary we do not need more police/military, we need basic social services: education, general services, streets, sidewalks, parks.

Add to the above the fact that among TV and newspaper media investigative journalism is a thing of the past. The daily feed that comes from whoever is in a position to present a press release to a talking head is passed on to us as it is given to them.

One of the best TV news sources is the John Stewart Show. He seems to actually do his homework, and his interviews are surprisingly tough. So some of the best reporting happens on a comedy show.

Thank you for your answers, gnukid. Can't say that I disagree, but what do I know? It is really too bad how journalism has deteriorated to the point where the corporate and government masters control information we are allowed to receive, and even manufacture or spin information. Journalism used to be an honorable profession.:(

HUH ?

"They don't do things like they did in the Old Days and they never did" ! Apologies to Don Meredith.

Journalism used to be a proud profession ?? What a joke that is. Journalism has ALWAYS been Yellow. You can go back to before the country existed and verify that. While there have been good Journalists, the bulk have been exactly what they are now. Read a little political history. I'll be happy to supply a reference list.

I found it funny earlier that Bajalou blamed Fox News. He must watch it a lot more than anyone else OR is just imagining it. That happens with dementia. I've found more sensationalist stories about the danger of Mexico in the Los Angeles Times than anywhere else. Sometimes on a daily basis. Not exactly a "Conservative" rag.

Bill, When in Baja I don't have a TV and in the states rarely watch any news. I like TV for entertainment and they news sure isn't entertainment - any network, doesn't matter which one. At neighbors I've seen a little of some of the Fox commentators and can't believe that they can believe some of the stuff they say. I didn't mean to "blame" Fox, it's just that neighbors who rant about this tell me they only watch Fox. But it's just as you pointed out above, it's just the old time "Yellow" journalism. These guys have found a message that makes them a lot of money so they keep it up. I do have neighbors that watch Fox ALL day? And they tell me that is where they get balanced views. Every one has biases, and of course, we like the ones we agree with.
