UPDATE, Guadalupe canyon is open again, but i was told for dry camping only no water yet, so i don't know what to do, If i want water i got to go to Guadalupe oasis, next to Arturos. o r stay with Arturo with no water... also Ernesto just posted on his website the new lower prices for his side of the canyon.

It is a beautiful canyon with pretty hiking to the pools and waterfalls above... But, a hot tub is a great attraction to have at a camp there... if you are going to pay big bucks... I did just now look at Ernesto's price list, and I don't see much change...? Is $90/ night/ car (2 night min.) really the best he can do for his side of the canyon?

I am sure you will make a fun trip out of it... Is Palomar Canyon out of the question for the cars that are in your group?

I am sorry you aren't going to to be going, Jose! It is a beautiful area even without the hot water... There are other places in Baja to go camping... Just not any quite like Guadalupe Canyon.

I got an email from Ernesto's son this morning (who reads Nomad) and said to check the new lower rates now on their web site...

My first thought would be to drive your family to Puertecitos and play in the hot water tubs there, but it isn't nearly as nice as el Caņon de Guadalupe, Jose. What a bummer...

Camped with Arturo and his family on my second trip to Baja years ago. Didn't care if we ever left Campo La Cueva, but we eventually moved on to enjoy the rest of Baja.

Met Grandpa, Ernesto and Arturo's father, who had been born and raised there by his Spanish cowboy father and Mexican-Indian grandmother.

The old man was 95 years old and bright as could be. However, I didn't like how he had divided the ownership of the camp between his sons, and time has proven me correct.

So sorry there's bad blood between the brothers. It hurts them and is a huge deterrent from my ever visiting and enjoying that bit of Heaven on Earth.

Nice story Mulegeņa... I heard about those old days at Guadalupe from Hotschott as well... Too bad the good times can't just stand still and all of us stop aging, too!

The serious development into the beautiful camp sites with their private hot tubs is thanks to Arturo's American son-in-law 'Canyonman Rob' and so many others (like Hotschott) who spent their time working on the palapas and tubs and plumbing to get the spring water to all the sites.

None of the other family members cared (it seemed) until they saw the success that Arturo was having with eco-friendly/ high end campers who enjoyed the experience under the stars without noise and didn't mind the price for such an amazing weekend experience.

I once camped at Angel's Campo #3 (just above Arturo's) when Arturo's (Campo #1) was full... and it was no fun with people all around you, and no real privacy in your tub... and still big bucks...

I don't see Ernesto's sites across the canyon being much better than Angel's. (Angel is no longer there and was only operating Campo #3 for Ernesto).

Some day there may be a new Campo #1 in operation... if they 'get-it', it will be nice.

Bajacat, I've never been to Guadalupe Canyon, but the pictures are beautiful!

I always enjoy reading about your travels down here, and your love for Baja always shines through.

I hope you had a good Halloween, however it turned out!

Thanks Paula I spend my Halloween taking my kids to collect candy here in National City SD.
And that's it David it's all about privacy, Arturo's side is all about that.
