We were right by La Fonda Sat morning eating at La Mission aroun 9 AM Sat. it was already packed down there. People all over the place could hardly
get a spot to park our F250. Seems odd or some one really needed to get the heck out of there in a hurry. Just very odd to me in broad day light.
We stop off there so often to eat breakfast or lunch. Never in many, many years have had any prob. not in that area any way.

I don't have a reason to doubt the story, it can happen here or anywhere in the world, but it is odd that this would happen in La Fonda, the reasons
why i think some are questioning this are the following:
1.-La Fonda is in the middle of nowhere, you shoot a gun and where are you going to run? take the road south or north and you eventually have to go
tru a check point, so thats no good.
2.-If the people doing this escape to the hills around, that means they are locals, and any local crazy enough to be doing this in such a small
community would get caught quickly.
So i think it was a one time deal, or something other than a rip off, or perhaps it never happened, if i had a gun i could find many many easier and
more profitable targets other than ripping off some guy i dont even know in the middle of nowhere La Fonda.
Just my 2 cents.

mind until i get all info and results, which i will pass on.
ps-the victims think the perps were high on something, given the way they acted.

What a mess for this young couple. I do hope they get the truck back at least. And with little expense. Have they contacted and talked with there US
insurance company? State Farm and Discover Baja were of great help to us when our Toyota was taken last year. I did find out that State Farm changed
two years earlier to only covering 50 miles into Mex. We lucked out by only three miles. Keep us posted.

Car Theft at La Fonda
There was a theft of a Honda at La Fonda one Saturday night last year when I went there for drinks with friends. I patiently waited for the Honda to
back out of the parking spot and considered myself lucky to get a spot right near the opening to the walkway. About an hour later a young American
man went out and said that (described my car) was in his spot and his Honda was gone. He was right.
What was really bad in my mind, was that the large gentleman who gave the impression that he was "watching the cars" as if he was security did not
flinch while the Honda was backing out. I never did notice during the hubbub in the parking lot when I left, whether the large security guy was still
around.
In my 35 years of driving in Baja, I fear La Fonda and Puerto Nuevo the most when parking.

Grover---has it been 10 or 15 years ago?
I remember that guy. I thought he was driving his truck along the dirt road that leads down to the Old Mill and the bandido came out from besides the
road. Too bad he can't carry down in Baja. Time sure moves along fast---it seems like it was just four or five years ago.

Hey, watch it DB!
I'm getting a new hat that says:
I'd rather push a Toyota than ride in a Diesel Dodge!

Ahhh I remmeber the ole days, running around Tijauna, Ensanada and beach camping all over the Norte. Never had a problem. Unless the Tecate got the
better of us. Funny thing now a days I dont stop till San Quintin. Who knows, maybe I just cant wait to get outa traffic or in my old age all that
Norte action just dosent do it for me! Amazing how the heart rate starts to drop at Santo Tomas. The last rip off was in Colonet and the only person to blame was me Haven a garage sale right on the bluff as I slept so peacefully There are some thing you just have to lock up no matter where you are!!

If they got the truck back, that's great. FYI, 21st century insurance now covers vehicles to a certain point south of the border, I think it might be
100 miles can't remember. I called to ask about it and they said not to count on it, to still get regular Mexican insurance to comply with Mexican
law, and they would not be hte primary carrier, but they had so many requests from customers they decided to insure in Mexico. So if they had 21st
century they might still be insured even if their earlier insurance expired. Were these folks from Orange County? If so I would like to talk to
them....

Two years ago jim ...... But like I said it was all my falt.. The morning was fun thou, They even stole my cloths I had to drive back into town ....naked and buy a pair of sweat pants from the market there... gave some kid a few
paso's and sent him to buy them for me To much funny now as I look back.
The realy funny thing is the poor guys didnt see my money sitting in the drivers door but they did get everthing eles. They where realy nice guys and
left my keys in the door of my truck and didnt steal that too and they took the ID's out of my wallet so I could get back into the US. All in all

Yep--bad news there at Colonet--we got ripped off twice over the years--worst thing I lost was my beloved Minolta XGM 35 mm camera--haven't found a
camera that I knew so well since.
