Great theme song for the world cup this year but...to be honest the thing I look forward to most is the soundtrack which always seems to come out really good!
Adrian on the other hand even got a widget on his desktop that's counting down to the seconds remaining for the world cup...yes seconds...
They said on T.V. that the inauguration ceremony is at 6 or 7 am? HA I'd like to see him get up for that!!

As all mexicans I do hope Mexico get's as far as they can, they have been playing Ok for the past few friendly games but who knows...I won't be betting on them anytime soon :biggrin:

Live life as well as you can,
don\'t regret the things that once made you smile,
learn from your mistakes,
and thank God for every second he gives you upon this earth.

Any other dual SA/Mexers out there? I put $5 on each team for Friday's game and know I will lose.

Dave (the elite one), if its any consolation, all email coming from SA indicates the SA team is not a winner . ...

That's an understatement. Mexico will beat SA. It's Uruguay I'm concerned about. I give them an outside chance to beat France.

Anyone know the status of Marquez?

I have yet to collect my winnings from the last one. In fairness to the losers, there is a considerable amount of distance involved and the USPS has a problem with volatile substances being sent by mail. But one of these days, I'm coming down there to collect.
Meanwhile, there is no guarantee that Mexico and USA will be heads up in some future round, but if so, I'm up for double or nothing with the LOSERS, (you know who you are).:tumble:

BTW, all of my maintenance crew are Mexican and they all asked for Friday off. That would have left us in a difficult situation, so I compromised and said if they came to work they could have the first two hours,7-9, to watch the game in the lunch room and get back to work later. They agreed and I hope to join them, although the timing is brutal.

OK - I have a freebie for you. I still owe your loonie mom a case of swill for the lucky overtime shot the Canadians got in the Olympics. Now if you and I can come up with a similar bet then if I win, I keep my case and if I lose, you get one too (but can't drink it until BB is born). Either way, you're not out anything. I either bring down two cases of Moose Drool or none.

Best line I've heard so far:

"The World Cup starts tomorrow and America is in the midst of tentatively preparing to care for a sport we only understand as 'that thing we watched our pre-teen sons and daughters do poorly while we're hungover on a Saturday morning' and getting ready to ramp up excitement as the tournament goes on.... until the USA loses, at which point we declare we never really cared anyway and completely stop paying attention."

I think the world is run by C- students.

It's kinda of fun, even if you don't totally enjoy the sport, as there are so many that do.. plus how many games go for a month to see who is the best... in the world..

Only wish I could go sit at a bar the hole month and drink beer, eat tacos, and what ever I would like.. and enjoy all the folks, just getting to sit there with a lot of folks and jaw .. used to do it a long time ago and it used to be a lot of fun... but, not anymore.. a few minutes.. thats about it..

How about some Nomads putting up their favorite water holes, with the best food (world cup specials) and HD TV sets (subjective I know), but some prefer Sony over Panasonic over...

I'm sure there are a few around that many would like to know about.. for the Wold Cup and just for a beer and/or what ever...

Most people really have no idea how passionate we Brazilians are about soccer. one of the first things i remember when we went to brazil to live permanently (I was 14) is my uncle telling me that my team was Flamengo. His team was my team, in other words !! and they are .. to this day

My wife and I experienced a crowd of people watching the last World Cup when we were in Campo Grande, Brazil. Literally 100's of people watching the game on a single TV in the street, yelling and screaming and partying. It was unreal.

Before that we were in Rio and saw the locals playing vollyball on the beach with their FEET - only their feet. It was amazing to see that, incredible talent.

Looking forward to watching as many games as we can this year. My wife's family is from Germany and they go nuts over there too! Big time. Thus we are rooting for the US and Germany.

They were the better team, but had, like usual, their regular finishing problem. They do need a big, designated striker badly. Had those problems at their warm up games also.

It's been my experience that when Mexico plays, the streets are empty. Everything comes to a complete stop and when Mexico suffers the misfortune of a loss, they should be left alone to grieve.
Furthermore, when Mexico loses to the USA, it would be suicidal to display anything like approval in public.
We will never understand.

so...I heard that Brazilians were rooting for SA this morning since their coach is Brazilian ... unusual since Brazilian love Mexicans usually

I was teaching English to the docs and nurses at the suguro social this morning and one of the nurses, who is not in the class, was watching the game and cheering as LOUD as I do when Brazil plays ... I do hope there is no violence on the field, I agree with wessongroup that it is only a game and sportsmanship is vital.

I love it when Mexico plays. 10 minute wait at the border this morning. Man I hope they make it to the finals.......and if they win the World Cup, maybe, just maybe, everyone will celebrate (away from the border) for months. Viva Mexico!
