They threatened to kill you? Nice of them to take time to threaten you. Unusal in these parts.

I would lie low if I were you. You know what side the authorities are on.

Yeah- it's totally unlike this passive-aggressive culture to do that, but the squatters friend is white trash american and you know how easily threatening words come out of their mouths. I'm not sure where the police authorities are today on this- the police commander was peeed off when he saw the video of the cops hugging her and promised they would be neutral in the future. And yes, I invited the commander into the house to watch it and the squatters all saw the police cars out front and the officers coming into the house. They had lied to the police about who started the fight and now the police say "they know what she is". They did not know she has another house around the corner. Maybe it's a turning point, but I'm not optimistic.

Well, I suppose, but of course the authorities are going to say you're right to your face. Everybody you speak with is going to say what you want to hear.

The builder obviously has relatively big money behind him. Where does big money come from around here? Most of it anyway.

Law enforcement doesn't seem to exist down here. Seems like all the authorities do is mop up the blood before finding someone involved to put the squeeze on.

True, but on the otherhand I was on the beach the other day with my two dogs running free, a beer, and smoking a cigarette. In San Diego I would have racked up probably $500 in fines.

It goes both ways.

I can't find the money source. I though it was in the USA. Finance North America was the only one marketing on the internet- now they claim to know nothing about it. A nomad chased down the owners of the phone number for sales: Aries Management- a US Corporation owned by a Mexican couple in Escondido. They have a twin Mexican corporation- Grupo Aries that has building lots for sale in Rosarito. This may or may not be the same people as the new Punta Azul project- I've been getting mixed info. I shook Finance North Americas tree a little already and they took the project off their site. ;)

They work every day on that tower- cleaning the windows, painting, caulking, etc. They built it cheap and fast on top of the old foundation. In the photo you can see they poured the concrete floors using corrugated roof panels propped up from below by two by fours, steel stud and plain drywall. Construction that isn't very ocean water hardy or wave friendly. It's pretty, but that stucco and glass won't fool the ocean.

I'm surprised Rosarito is willing to give up the north half of the beach actually. What is Rosarito Beach without the Beach?

wow ... what a nightmare .... where to start ? IMHO I think the first short version does not pack the punch you want it to, but I can't quite put my finger on what to change .... really, I wd show the video to someone in marketing/advertising - they have the gift of gab and make mega bucks for a good reason. the medium is the message. This is so important, so, so important that you need the best possible impact. Do you know anyone in the movie business ? Any BajaNomaders out there who can help ??

and once the video is to your liking, why not send it onto PROFEPA directly ?

maybe get all the neighbors to sign a petition to return 100% of the beach to the PEOPLE and send to governor, delegado, diputado, senador ie everyone you can think of in power. I did this and we got one thing we wanted out of the probably 5 petitions I had almost every individual in La Bocana sign ...

elections are coming up - call a politician and see if he/she doesn't want to campaign using this as part of their platform. they are hunting for reasons to get voters on their side.

why not call the local TV station and ask them to support the cause by at least doing a blurb about the problem ?

maybe write or call Antonio Banderas or Salma Hayak or ????? and explain the problem ??? Maybe they can call a director and a movie can be made.

Best of luck. Hope I have given some ideas, that is my intention :light::light:

Thaks Blanca. You put a lot of thought into that and I appreciate it.

I'm working on the punch part. The obvious attention grabber would be to point out the police favoritism and PGJE corruption like the long version. That gets attention- but gets me killed and doesn't move a building or build a seawall.

I was hoping the beach not being walkable would be an "eyebrow raiser." Maybe I need more beach walking footage or something. A beach stroll was the #1 activity for 60% of US retirees in Mexico.

Woosh - I wish you a lot of luck on this .... and for sure stay away from the whole police and corruption bit ... but you have a problem and it must be resolved or yeah ... no beach, or a tiny one, and illegal bldg put up to boot

now, what you just said might be a good line: something like: What is Rosarito without a beach ? Take the beach out of Rosarito and what do you have ? Appeal to the obvious but be creative and witty. and somehow ask what viewers think should be done and then create a facebook page where they voice these opinions ???

"¡Yo quiero Malecón!" I want my boardwalk! Playas de Tijuana went through this and just put in a full length boardwalk. They held a concert there today. Hard to imagine the TJ beach needs a recreational boardwalk more than a tourist destination like Rosarito does.

The redevelopment of the playas de tijuana beach front is only partially complete. It has been going on for several years. In addition to the boardwalk they have built a substantial seawall. I watched it being built over the past 9 months. It goes very deep into the ground with about 20% above ground level.

New sewer lines have been put in place beneath the street that parallels the beach and a system to divert storm runoff has also been built.

New beachfront apartments and restaurants are being built and the city is negotiating with the owners of the more dilapidated buildings to repair them. Long term cheap loans are available.

And, as many of you know the asphalt highway leading into playas has been replaced with a widened concrete highway. The main streets in playas have also been resurfaced.

Baseball diamonds and soccer fields have also been built in the past few years and there are plans to create additional parks for the residents.

Continual and substantial improvements since I moved here 4 years ago. And it's not to attrack tourists, it's for the citizens of the city. I recently heard TJ is the 2nd biggest city on the west coast, population wise, after LA. Hard to believe. I've also read that it is the fastest growing major city in Mexico.

It really is nice what TJ is doing there. They took the old threads of poor urban planning and infrastructure neglect and wove them all into a comprehensive, long-term solution that benefits everyone, including the environment.

I hope this inspires Rosarito into doing something similar.

Thanks Rico.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Over 125 views of the short video and nearly 50 of the full version. Great feedback and we made some changes. The new video title is...
¿Qué es Playas de Rosarito, sin la playa? (What's Rosarito Beach without the beach?)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZui7JxeA8U

The full Spanish version will be up on Wednesday. That one has the documents up close, more details and the full "woooosh smackdown" footage. We cut the police shenanigans out and only mention that PGJE has not act "as of yet"- not done nothing. (Many U2U's on those points)

We started a Facebook group using the title of the video and begin adding content to it this week. Little by little...

Great Video which explains the problem succinctly. I'm surprised the attackers of the victim at the handicapped access area and the skinhead and his backup partner who subsequently threatened the victim and family weren't found thrown over a bridge like hanging piñatas which I'm sure they deserved. The video also shows why Mexico is in such deep trouble. CORRUPT POLICE.

PS: If this Ortiz gal lives in Sun City and if she is a U.S. Citizen why not sue her in Federal Court for violating someone's civil rights... Is that a possibility...Just saying!

Well- the short video is up- but the full version has the violence and corruption. We have used great restraint in dealing with these violent people (besides defending ourselves when physically attacked).

You are correct that we could make her life miserable stateside. She works for the State of California in the department of Education department and also works with foster children programs. She also lives full time is too many places apparently. She claims the Rosarito squatter house as her 100% residence (with another house around the corner she makes believe isn't hers). I'm sure the state of CA thinks she lives and works there full time.

We'll let the first video percolate around her a few days and see what bubbles up. Then we will release the second full video and hand deliver them to the PGJE and PROFEPA (the secretary at the TJ PROFEPA office knows me by first name already).

You are a very capable detective and would be a valuable compadre and asset if we take that route. I'm more interested in the result that the process. We did find in 2006 she filed a lawsuit against the neighborhood fracciamineto- but she must have lost and turned to squatting (we are getting the court records to have them translated). You can poke around her background... her full name is Otila Ortiz Maldonado. She has a house on a lake in Sun City, CA and works for the EASTSIDE UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT in Lancaster. She is associated with the Foster Youth Liaison and her work e-mail is tortiz@eastside.k12.ca.us

Wooosh:

I applaud you efforts to keep this fight clean, clear and above all not self serving, but for all.

But when in the trenches as you are, you may have to take this battle to their level. Don't you have some "family friends" or connections?

If you can't follow the money, that's your first clue as to what you are dealing with.

Watch your back and be careful. And call in a few favors yourself.

No worries. For five years I stupidly and naively thought taking the high road would get results and would be respected here. We are now playing by Mexican rules. It's liberating actually. Thanks.
