LA Bay fishing not that good right now. "but sure is pretty". Asuncion serf fishing right now is vary good. Stop in Guerrero Negro go see whales at Ojo de Liebre then head to Asuncion. Then head down to La Bocana and fish the estuary. Then go to San Ignacio lagoon to see more whales then head home. Not much really going on on the Sea of Cortez side this time of year and can be windy for days at a time right now. "but sure is pretty".
My wife and I made many of our trips without any plans just a few hints and ideas. That is the best way. Kept us going back again and again to check out all the places we saw but couldnt stop at.
Have fun and be safe.

Impressive catch, BigOly. You got the Hasselhoff/Baywatch thing going on eh?

After about an hour of fighting this fish(20lb line and about 3 feet of 60lb leader) and one of Jeff Clauson's Rangers, I had gathered an audience from the bar. The surf really came up and I about drowned trying to revive the fish but it didn't make it. I'm so sorry for that but I gave it to the "crew" that worked there so it didn't go to waste. A magical day of fishing. 3 or 4 roosters all over 30 pounds. Jacks up the ying yang and my arms were about to fall off. Oh, and a sierra they weighed at the restaurant the guys said weighed 17 lbs! Gee maneeze. Almost a world record! Never saw anything like it before or since. And did I say?? I was fishing all alone.

BigOly, you're my hero. Catching that rooster on 20lb test combined with a decent sized swell is impressive to say the least. The day you have described sounds amazing. A 17lb sierra is massive!

I too was staying at Solmar. My GF had wanted a nice hotel for New Years while on our camping vacation. I spent most of the day in the pool and in the afternoon went down to fish. There was only one other guy (also a tourist) on the whole beach fishing. He and I both ended up catching similar sized Jacks within a few minutes of each other creating a sizable crowd. Since it is winter we had almost zero swell to deal with. He kept his to eat for dinner and I released mine.

I have a Shimano Spheros 5000 with upgraded drags. I know it's a bit small, but it worked well on this trip.

LA Bay, Bahia Asuncion, Bahia Concepcion, La Paz, Who knows, We are planning to be down there for about 2 weeks and going to take it easy. Primarily camping in the truck/tent and fishing/eating as we go.

Always open to suggestions!
