Mood: missing Baja...

[*] posted on 2-10-2011 at 10:15 PM

How in the world could that have survived making it past all those rocks, and then been on that beach long enough to dry out like that without anyone finding it?It looks to be the size of a basketball and would be very hard to miss.It would have been there for quite some time .Beautiful find...

There are no rocks in front of most of Shell Island... just a few as you near the Percebu end, at low tide. The photo where she is holding the 'thing' was taken in front of their place, a few miles south Shell Island and Bahia Santa Maria

(per the text below the photo: "The wife found this Sand dollar at shell beach Km last year the picture was taken when we got back to our place. Now we always carry the camera!")

Jim has not posted anything more... ???

Dave I have no close ups. the sand dollar is at our place in Mexico. we are home in the states at the moment. I have taken two pictures both at the same distance. can't you copy and past the current picture and blow it up to get a better veiw of the sand dollar? The sand dollar is 8" and my wife is 4'9" tall. the sand dollar was found as you come in to the beach, turning right headed south just as you start seeing the houses not sure what campo that is?

Hi Jim,

If you email me the full size (non reduced) image from your PC file, I can try... info AT vivabaja.com ('Baja' in subject line).

The campo you see from the south end of Shell Island is Bahia Santa Maria.

8" is more realistic... the photo looks like it is a foot or more across... it appears bigger than her head...

It still might be a world record!:light:

Wow, that's like a sand-100-dollar!

Also, I loved the video... Have never seen how a LIVE sand dollar navigates in the water. Very nice video!

GOOD ONE JIM AND LIISA!!! ......YOU SURE HAD US ALL FOOLED!!

I couldn't wait to get back down there to start looking for my own giant.
I've found some big shells and sand dollars there, but had neverm seen anything even 1/4 that size.

funny story...There was a particular shell a Gal friend and I always looked for on Shell Island and we always had a friendly competition going to see who found the most. Well this one day, I got my butt kicked by her. BUT... as we started to leave, I found a GIANT one right near HER quad. It was about 4 times their normal size. She had out numbered me, but was so mad I had found the BIG ONE!
