David K, on one of your maps above, you also have "spotted in" a road that leaves Highway 3 at San Matias and joins the road to the Observatory. Been
on that one lately? What's it like?

Bajatripper,
You probably want to find out about the condition of the road from San Vicente to Valle de Trinidad from someone who's been on it recently, i.e. after
the race. I rode that road on a dirt bike one year and it was a whooped out barrel of fun. I went back there the next year and it was a graded super
highway, which is probably what your looking for. Those trips occurred in the spring of 07 & 08.

Thanks for the input, bent-rim. My objective is to get from the Gulf side to the Pacific and make a trip up to the observatory in the Sierra de San
Pedro Martir. The better road is likely the one you mention. But seeing as David K has included a map showing the shortcut to the observatory road, I
thought I'd check to see if anyone has been on it lately, too.
Again, thanks for all the info.

Thanks for the link, TW. I'll be sure not to cut any locks or pull down any fences now that I know I would be prosecuted.
