Right... so unless you want to see mostly HIDs in your eyes, find a place to watch closer to the start!

The official 1000 map is out with course notes. Looks like the only change was after Borrego the course follows the steel power lines to San Matias instead of near the hwy.

How hard will it be to get thru Ensenada from San Diego on Nov. 18th with the Baja 1000 going? plan on leaving around noon.

I've been to the start of the baja 250 and that was alot of people just trying to figure out when I should leave SD to get to San Quintin before sunset.

Thanks for any help!

It depends on when you will be going thru. Assuming you are going south on hwy 1 just stay on hwy 1 when you get to Ensenada. I mean don't come down to the water front area. Hwy 1 bypasses the start area. The start is in front of the Riviera Convention Center. Bikes at 6:30am with the last bike about 7:30am. First truck at 11:30am with the last car about 1pm. They start every 30 seconds. Ave. Lopez Mateos, the street behind the Center will be closed in that area. There is two way traffic in front of the Center on the normally south bound lanes but I would avoid the area completely.

I'm not sure how it's marked but hwy1 will go straight and 1D curves to the right to head to the water front. That's what the AAA Baja map shows. Hwy 1 joins Calle 10A then turns right at Ave Ruiz then left to Calle 9A and finally right on Ave Reforma and south.

It's a zoo... why would you go through Ensenada on that day if you don't want to see any of the race activity? If you must, then do as TW says... use the inland (left/ straight) route at the split before entering town.

Thanks for your help! My wife, son(1 year old) and I have the week off for Thanksgiving and want to just cruz down, she's not that into the race but Im just happy she wants to go down. The plan is to get down to Loreto but we need to be at my parents house in San Felipe - Bahia Santa Maria by Friday the 25th for some Thanksgiving Turkey, so its kind of up in the air.

We dont have a room friday night reserved but Sat. and possibly Sunday we are staying at San Ignacio Springs, my other idea was to drive down to my parents house friday the 18th and stay the night then head to San Ignacio thru Gonzaga(love the road status updates on this site!) early Sat. morning...either way its looking like alot of traffic.

Again thanks!

Actually there will probably be more traffic in the San Felipe area on Friday since the race will spend a lot of time in that area. So chase crews will be all over it running back and forth and you may know how stupid and crasy some of them can be. There will be chase crews on the pacific side later in the afternoon, mostly after the 4 wheelers leave.

Cool we are on the southside, my grandfather was and still is one of the partners of one of the first round houses on the beach, he and his classmates at SDSU camped there before having the house built in the 60's i think, it was 10+ partners now down to 3, some partners that left built homes in Santa Maria a few houses down. My dad's house is right next door, my favorite place to be!

10-4, we used to fish on the bay (we called it The Lagoon) before Aniceto Madueña home-steaded the area. First round houses built on the bay (named after his daughter Maria) about 1968 or 69. In 1972, I had a vey bad motorbike crash on the runway road just down from the Madueña home/ office... They all knew about me back then (I was 14). We rented a lot on the bay, but never built on it... In 1978, the bay radically started to change and many round houses were lost (including the lot where we had leased). After that, new homes went up along the non-bay beach (Playa Hermosa and up to the bay's peninsula).
