One day last week a marlin came up less than 100' from my boat at Isla Santa Cruz, and friends caught one near Las Animas. The SST during this calm spell has been reaching over 70 degrees outside in the afternoon. Yesterday I fished early around Santa Cruz for yellowtail and then in the heat of the day trolled about 30 (4 hours) miles on a line east of Santa Cruz / Catalana about 15 miles for marlin and/or dorado, for nada. There is much less bait and sea life outside than in. The marlin are definitely here, though, and the dorado will not be far behind, if they, too, are not already around.

Here's a pic of one of the hammerhead sharks that have taken over one of the bajos south of town. I sent this one on his way sporting one of my circle hooks in the corner of his mouth.

200 lb tuna (est.)

two of our guests went out wednesday with manuel torres ( of the well known torres fishing clan ) and boated a tuna estimated to weigh 200 pounds. the next day they caught one that weighed in at 95 pounds. i've seen the pictures, seen the fillets, and enjoyed some great tuna. so, yes, they are out there.

No Cypress you can't get these fish with a strip bait over a rock pile:lol: you better stick to the shellcrackers.
Rob

Anyone can catch fish in a boat but only \"El Pescador Grande\" can get them from the beach.

I hope when my time comes the old man will let me bring my rod and the water will be warm and clear.
