I assume that you're talking about Alex Smith.
Smith grew up in La Mesa, California. His father, Douglas D. Smith, was the Executive Director at the high school that Alex attended, Helix Charter
High School, until June 30, 2010.[2] As a starter at Helix during his junior and senior years Smith led his team to a record of 25-1, including two
San Diego CIF section championships. He was named to the first-team all-conference and all-county squads in the San Diego CIF system. Smith also
earned the conference offensive player of the year twice, and twice won the team MVP for Helix. During his time at Helix, Smith set a school record by
throwing for six touchdowns in one game, and recorded the second-highest completion percentage in San Diego CIF history. While at Helix, he played
with 2005 Heisman Trophy winner (since vacated) Reggie Bush. Smith and Bush were later finalists for the 2004 Heisman, making it the first time a high
school had two finalists at the same ceremony.
Smith was president of his senior class in high school, and was also an excellent student who graduated with a 4.4 GPA one semester early by earning
college credits through a program with San Diego State University and a dozen Advanced Placement tests.[3]

Smith attended the University of Utah and played for the Utah Utes, wearing number 11. He finished fourth in voting for the 2004 Heisman Trophy and
was selected as the 2004 Mountain West Conference Player of the Year. Smith posted a 21–1 record as a starter in college, while leading a high-powered
spread offense under head coach Urban Meyer. He led the Utes to victories in the 2005 Fiesta Bowl and the 2003 Liberty Bowl. Smith earned a bachelor's
degree in economics in two years with a 3.74 GPA, having matriculated with 64 credit hours, and began work on a master's degree in the field before
being drafted.

We just know that he is doing a very nice job here for our Niners.
Tough being the elite team in the league and then having the down years we had, some of the worst with Alex.
But, amazingly someone had more faith in him than most of us "49er Faithful" and he is a credit to Helix, or Utes or wherever-
Heck, he was born in Seattle and that is close to my hometown,
guess we all can claim him,
I read that one of his ancestors came as an immigrant from Austria
Illegal no doubt.
That should be proof enough that this thread belongs in Baja territory.

My team is the 49ers, but I like the Chargers as well. I'm glad both are off to 2-0 starts. That said, the Chargers have beaten the Raiders and the
Titans, and I think neither of those two is playoff bound ... both are 0-2, so Chargers should be 2-0 or else.
A better measuring stick will come after game six. By then, SD will have had to play KC and Denver, plus Saints and Falcons. There's at least two
playoff teams in that group. Hopefully SD is at least 4-2 by that point.

Helix also gets to claim Bill Walton as well. Different sport but still a highly decorated alumnea.
SD sports has produced more Heisman Trophy winners than any other metro area in the U.S.

Oh, the Chargers will be ready for Atlanta. Early line has the Chargers favored by 3. Atlanta has to fly here for this game and had a short week to
prepare. It won't be easy, and it should be a great game to watch.
Go Chargers ! Alone in AFC West first place !

The "Juice" is now spending his time just a few miles north of Lovelock, NV.
on the east side of US Highway 80 ... his "home" to be for many years.
