edm1,
Art, if I can make the trip, we can go somewhere after the "official" run with anyone like us who do not use the W word.

The Baja sounds real good for the holiday, and The Shell Island sounds even better.

Well, I would love to go to Shell Island for the 3 day weekend, but no guarantee yet and the driving to the island through sea water will inhibit most. It was nearly that high a tide when Art (edm-1) tried to get the new/ bigger motorhome onto the island in 2011. Perhaps Laguna Percebu or Bahia Santa Maria or Nuevo Mazatlan would be a better choice to avoid the salt water slime? It is an island, afterall... and why it remains undeveloped and a perfect beach camp. Hope to see you on THE island, or one of the other back-up camps. Baja Warrior or Baja Rob... are you guys going to be 'home' in Baja then?

The BoLA portion sounds interesting to me. I have been from La Bocana to San Pedro on my quad several times, not sure if a truck or motor home could make it. I was up there a few months ago. Lots of fresh water up there. The local ranchers have now put up fences to keep control of their cattle, but there are gates to allow travel up the wash to San Pedro from La Bocana.

I have no doubt the motorhome will make it through the mud, with the traction mats that I now carry along. But they're to be used only for unplanned recovery, as I hate to clean the wheels and underframe of mud later, especially if going down further to BoLA. So I think I'll pass on Shell Island this time, unless the tide schedule changes its course :-)

I don't blame you Art! While the Tacoma with A-TRAC and rear locking differential will get through, the clean-up once back in San Felipe will take a couple hours, plus any wait! Remember, the U.S. border guards can turn you back if you have excess 'soil' on your vehicle!

Not to mention the time and expense for repacking bearings and differential fluid changes. Water will get in there somehow.

I performed the rear differential breather mod (locates the breather up high, and not on top of the differential). The front differential and transfer case breathers are both located up high, near the battery.

I did this following our 2010 Mission Santa Maria Epic Adventure... My rear differential was water contaminated and I had it changed when we returned home.

Here is my post on the mod, from TacomaWorld.com: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/technical-chat/111954-my-di...

So you are going to L.A. Bay on the first day? If we go south it will be to Shell Island, which will be an island all 3 days at high tide!

Good. Now, you can tackle the Pole Line Road and the tricky Laguna Salada River crossing!:bounce:

Is your target still the Golfo Camino Real between La Bocana (mis-labled as San Pedro in the Almanac) and Tinaja de Santa Maria?
