Bait... see that galvanized bucket in the background (1967)? That was our bait bucket... We used mussel pulled off the docks on Mission Bay... The
corbina, etc. go crazy over it. However, they are not the easiest to stay on the hook when you cast. This was the bait of choice for surf fishing in
the 50's and 60's.
Since then, we discovered grunion works excellent. I would collect grunion on a run (Solana Beach last time, 1983)... then freeze them, and take them
to Baja... cut bait, great action. The grunion runs in the daytime near San Felipe, but that would be too lucky, plus the fish were probably not
hungry then?
Camping with tents & tarps. Then migrating to tent trailers on the beach with propane fridge/freezers. As you get older, moving to a house in
either Percebu or Santa Maria. Get to have best of both worlds!
I knew David could not resist his own pictures....
'The "Island" was not always an island. Used to camp close to there in the 50/60's when it was a finger of land, and never flooded. Things change

Sorry pictures stay off the internet.
That's right, it was a peninsula and we drove to Percebu fish camp in the 60's on the beach. The southern lagoon was open to the sea following the
hurricane. The two lagoons connect at highest tides which creates Shell Island.
