I agree. At one time I would have never thought Rocky Point would develop as it has. And a few year back a resident of Gonzaga Bay told me that the pavement would never reach there, at lease not until long after she was gone. She was younger than I am, so I assume she is still kicking.

So, maybe, and maybe not. It will be interesting to watch.

We used to go to Puerto Peñasco because San Felipe was to crowded and we could get red snapper from the shore there.

But I'm sure a lot of money will change hands leaving a lot of big winners and financially ruined losers.
And a desal plant, that would help finish off that section of coastline.

They must have found some old marketing hype from Loreto Bay! Ha! Waste management - hmmmm. Where have I heard that? I think Loreto Bay trucks their trash to Ensenada.

Optimal use of water - IS there water?

It's still gonna suck if DK can't get to his place in the sand. They will shut access to the whole area. Some of us have seen it before, I would not wish it on anybody.

Very cool!

The Franklin diesel engine and transmission was all that remained after the wood had been removed... I think I saw some it still there not long ago... sort of a rust stain in the mud.

In 1973, my friend and I climbed up upon it and imagined to sail it away! In 1978, I tried to drive close to it from the salt flat road and slowly sunk into the goo... Got out, using a piece of wood from the boat that was about half there!

The SF link has some inaccuracies because a site from the mainland documented the purchase of many properties (Campos) along the coast that included some mentioned in the SF story. Those many properties were purchased by a one of the companies that C. Slim owns. That report was a result of examining tax filings in Ensenada and the reporting was accurate. The Slim purchases included properties in 3 different Ejidos that I am aware of.

The Inveravante property was previously owned by Pat Butler (of Eldorado Ranch fame) and Butler's agents have been working with Inveravante for govt approvals for many years. The major issues were approval for wells in the western canyons, marina. Waste treatment, CFE power, subdivision documentation, and probably many other issues I am not aware of. Even a casino was mentioned at one time. The Slim purchases occurred after the beginning of the Inveravante/Butler sales agreement. About a 3? year gap if I remember correctly.

BTW, It has been reported that large parcels south of the one being discussed are owned by family members of the previous president and that coincided with the federal approval to improve Hwy 5. When this became known many of the coastal properties came on the market and very few were sold until the Slim activity took place.

"Who was the President of Mexico when that highway improvement was approved and construction started???? Who is the construction company related to and what relatives of the politicians own property along the route????"

Maybe not soon, but power lines will start to appear...........

Development is GOOD


The more upscale the Development, the BETTER for the MOST people.

For those of us who have been traveling to (and living in) the area for many years (in my case 1966), it might be bittersweet, but we should look upon it as our good fortune to have had so many years when things were still more primitive and adventurous. What we considered adventure, the average Mexican likely found to be a lot of Drudgery.

That those who have the most money will benefit the most is a given. It's the way of a competitive society, but THAT tide WILL raise others, too.

Update...I heard there was a payment plan worked out and Notarized to purchase Parcel 322 from Pat Butler (where the resort will be) for $4.3 million US. Also looks like the profit Butler will make goes directly to his long time lender Textron and Paladin (aka, Montezuma Simon LLC). The story is a little twisted.

I have a small something to add......


We built/own a home on a leased lot in Baja Santa Maria. Have been there for the past 10 years.

I've read all I can on the Marinazul Resort proposed development. I've been traveling Baja since 1975, seen all the flags planted, store fronts built only to fade away....BUT I think this project has legs...and soon water and power lines... it already has a new highway....

This year our landlady sends us an urgent email asking all her leasee's to attend a meeting on the beach this October 11th to discuss a very important topic. No indication of what the topic is....very strange. Anytime there is a rent raise or collection of city or federal taxes that is made very clear, this meeting was not. Also mentions that our garage roof needs repair at a tune of $2,000, hmmmm.

Now for second hand news....we have heard that our landlady is moving to Ensenada. One of the folks just down from us was offered the chance to "purchase" his lot and he took her up on it. HA! No way in hells acres can you purchase land that is a spit from the beach!

Speculation....I read in this forum that giant land parcels south of the proposed Marinazul Resort is owned by friends of the past president. I really have no idea if our landlady has any connections in this area, but I think she knows something we don't.....

I think is that she is trying to squeeze as much money out of the existing leasee's before moving to Ensenada because there is an immanent change in land ownership coming....

The October meeting should be interesting.

Please keep us inforned. Was on Shell Island 6 weeks ago, and it was as unchanged and perfect as it was when I first camped out there 37 years ago.

Sure change happens, and it has been a big part of my Baja life, along with Nuevo Mazatlan and Bahia Santa Maria in the 1960's and 70's. We even had a lot on the sand bar between the bay and back-bay/lagoon for a couple years leased from Sr. Madueña.
