LITTLE city? Where you from??

Just curious, any La Pazinites happen to know the current census population there now?

Greater La Paz pop is 250K....no longer a quaint little city....
But.....here is the problem as i see it vis a vis expats and non imigrantes; most of the problems lie in unsubstantiated gossips by people who are not in the know, and that becomes an endemic. Does La Paz have a problem? of course and for the small population it is indeed a problem. I live in Alberta where gang violence is part of the culture of big cities like Edmonton and Calgary, and believe me, from my experience (retired law enforcement) the problems of violence are almost always attributable to drugs. I don't plan to give a politicians' solution to the problem....but if one takes things in perspective (i.e. using your common sense) and lives with the risks, then I think La Paz is livable. There is no solution to a commodity that is in public demand and considered illegal by a government....ask any working girl.

just my humble opinion...

regards,
Keith

Metropolitan Flagstaff is 136,000 and it is a small town.
San Luis Rio Colorado (SLRC) Sonora has 200,000+ and it is a small town.
La Paz still feels small to me. I really like the place and hope the narco crap will stop soon for everyone's sake.
Police chief in SLRC was just assassinated, yet the town is still overall a pretty quiet place to hang out and feels pretty safe.
Narco violence is at least as of yet not usually "random".
Peace to La Paz

Are the gangs of Canada as violent as the narco cartels of Mexico? Do they target police and other government officials? I suspect their tunnel expertise is not up to snuff so I will not ask about that. (thats a joke).

if you mean, do they shoot to kill? of course they do....if you mean are as many killed per population? no of course not.....c'mon...mexico and latin america are unique to this in many ways....but think back to Florida about 25 years ago.....and also take into account that the police in the US and Canada are generally not as corrupt or corruptible because they are better trained and better paid....and are not in most part, a part of the problem. I think you know what i am getting at.....right?

Could be worse; could be in Chicago; they're averaging over two dozen casualties every weekend. Elementary school children doing their homework on their beds hit with strays going through walls from drive-byes. If only the druggies could keep it between themselves, it's Clorox in the gene-pool. It's the collateral damage that is the travesty.

And then there's the I-10 shooter(s) in Phoenix.

Try to imagine tourists being shot at on Highway 1?

La Paz isn't any more or less dangerous with it's violence -- which, by the way, isn't new.

As for Todos, a neighbor confronted someone coming in through his upper floor window, and the perp pulled a gun and shot at him.

A neighbor in Pescadero had 3 Mexicans come in his yard, one pulled a gun, and demanded money.

Lots of violence doesn't make the media but is well known.

Baja isn't for everyone. Like the Buddhaman said: buy your ticket, take your chances.

It's not the end of the world, folks.

US Marines: providing enemies of America an opportunity to die for their country since 1775.

What I say before any important decision.
F*ck it.

Have not been to Chicago in 40 years and don't plan to go in the near future. I go to La Paz at least a couple times a year and will continue to do so. I therefore am more aware of what happens in La Paz.

While in Tucson, we were well aware of the freeway shootings. The people that lived there altered their course to work so as to stay off the freeway. Smart people.

Do some of you wear a bulls eye on your back for the thrill of it all?

or are you just tough on the internet. Maybe you can show your macho by going to La Paz and challenging some of those "in the alternate gene pool".

NEVER MIND. Most of you do not go to Mexico that often anyway.

20 shootings and only one death? Sounds like the Chicago gangstas need to take shooting lessons from the MX narcos..

The narcos make sure of what they do... dismemberment works wonders.

from the article "In a fit of rage at his perceived treachery, La China allegedly cut off El Tyson's forearms before killing him."
