To answer your question Sancho, first of all most of the rancor on this thread has nothing to do with this alleged incident.

I disagree with you that there is no reason to doubt the OP's rumored post.

The alleged incident is so far out there in left field, especially since there is no history in Mexico about a gang of thugs, robbing hotels, including knocking on doors, and robbing all the guests over at least a one hour period without a heavy police response.

Then you have the fact there is not one shred of corroborating evidence, like a TV news report, or local newspaper report. We don't even have the name of the hotel where this alleged incident supposedly happened. It also appears this whole rumored incident came from a 3rd party source.

Yeah yeah, we hear the US media, misses these news stories all the time. However, the fact is...... the local Mexican media, does not miss these kind of big news stories. It would have made the local TV news.

And you Sancho, says, "but no reason to doubt the post." Well, one day you Sancho, could win lotto, but I have to tell you the odds are not in your favor. The same with this alleged 3rd party incident of a mass robbery. The odds of it happening are very long.

Part of the other rancor about starting wild rumored threads, is that collectively these type of thread starters hurt Mexico tourism. Now Woody hints of now posting the hotel's name was because he didn't want to smear a hotel, until he gets confirmation. But for others who always want to belief the worse about Mexico, Woody, already did damage, they actually believe this 3rd hand account, or think it's very plausible.

The good news is that Mexico had a record year of foreign tourists in the millions, and next year will probably be another record year.

held up at gunpoint after leaving that Rene Casino, apparently
followed home, report was uniformed badged Police looking
robbers, yes indeed, unverified third hand, but no reason to
doubt the post

... and what would remain, would be meaningful :). It surprises me when people choose rumors over facts.

Could be an exaggerated isolated incident in one hotel room. Could be a targeted hit of one room - or of the entire hotel in course of a turf war. Could be nothing at all.

Guys, it was a simple question. Maybe we should all chip in and hire an independant investigator? Nobody said they were afraid on Baja or that tourism was down because of one supposed incident. Just a simple question to the (mostly) simple folk.

If that is wrong maybe this place has run its course? #Sad! :P

Could be, lots of subjects that are taboo now...If you stick "to where are the cheapest tacos, and how is hiway 5" you are ok...Don't dare bring up possible detrimental to tourism or property value subjects..I though your question was well put..How ya gonna find out if ya don't ask...

Woody, it was not just a simple question, it was an indictment against Mexico and the Mexican people. The lack of respect and sarcasm comes out loud of clear, especially towards the Rosarito police.

I know some of the Rosarito police have failed a confidence test, that includes a background check, and lie detector test. But C'mom I would think the Rosarito police would come out in force over a hotel robbery that included taking families hostage including kids and robbing them too.

BTW if the US cops were given "confidence tests" in the US, I'm sure a good percentage would fail too. Rosarito police should get strong police unions, to protect the street cops like in the US, this way they could do their job with impunity like the US cops.

Woody's posts that started this thread, note the negativity and sarcasm. It's more than just a simple question about a robbery.
_____________

Woody wrote: Heard third hand that a hotel full of guests were ransacked room by room by guys with automatic weapons over the weekend. Kids seperated from their families for an hour. Apparently, the cops were nice enough to show up after the guys left.

Anyone able to confirm this?

A naive question, Woody. It's difficult to believe you would have any doubt that the 3rd hand story you posted was true. Just making conversation with chuck? Always count on him to scare the women and children -- esp. when he's quoting MSN and The Daily Beast.

Joe, a guy I know told me the story third hand. You defend it like it's anti-fact! I told my version with every qualifier and yet, you've managed to inject all of the verbal diahreamente that coulda, woulda, shoulda......

Looks like this thread should get locked?
