You'll get my cold beer when you pry it from my cold dead fingers.

1972 aboard the USS Decatur DDG-31 (a guided missile Destroyer) steaming in the South China Sea...

Well one fine day we did and exchange of sailors for the day with a British ship just for educational purposes. Well I was an HT (snipe) and when we visited the Brits ship we were treated to a party of sorts complete with beer. The British sailors are rationed, I believe, two pints a day and the sailors had saved up their beers for this glorious occasion.

The beer was warm but we all LOVED it just the same , we all had some great laughs and a good time was had by all !
For those of you that don't know it is strictly forbidden to have ANY alcohol on board ship.

For a long time now, whenever I'm at a bar (mostly in South East Asia)
and meet any Brit sailors I buy them all their beers while i'm there.

Since I've given up all hope, I feel much better

Why do the English drink warm beer?

Lucas refrigerators.

I remember those days with English cars. I used a hammer to get the electical system working.

Ah, I remember my 1966 Triumph TR4A IRS with great fondness, now that enough time has passed to almost make me forget the torment I suffered keeping that thing running (I spent more time tuning and re-tuning the damn carburetors than I spent with my girlfriend). I wouldn't wish Lucas electric components on my worst enemy.

... than I spent tuning my girlfriend.:lol:

I had a TR6 at the time. Same problems with the carburetors (Stromberg). That thing never ran right, but my friends envied me. One said "It was like getting into a rocket". Sold it and bought a plain old 67 VW beetle.
