No updates in over a week. That, after days of hourly updates.
How is Dennis doing?

Jeez, Skipjack Joe, you read my mind before I got up this morning. I hope Dennis remains optimistic.
I remember when I was a scrawny 16-year old, and decided one day to "get some muscles". I went to a gym every day after school for six months. Lifted
weights, boxed, skipped rope, the whole bag of tricks. The end result was I lost weight and became more fit but I was still a skeleton. That sure
taught me a lesson. Recovering from a stroke is as hard or harder. You have to *will* neurons to find bypass circuits in the brain through hard,
repetitive training. I guess it's called physical therapy now. In Spanish...

Dennis is doing great. He is moving around in a wheelchair, using his right arm. His left leg and left arm are moving, albeit weakly. He needs
several more months of heavy duty rehab to get them strong enough to come home. He is not happy with the Kaiser rehab at their facility, he seems to
feel they have given him a back seat to the Blue Cross insurance patients. The nurses aides left him on a toilet for 45 minutes, and he almost fell
off. So right now the VA is making arrangements to transfer him to one of their facilities in San Diego. He is also walking with a quad walker, with
alot of support. But he is not getting the hours of rehab they promised him. He is very anxious and determined to work harder. He said he is not
ready to post at this time. I asked him why but he just answers he isn't ready. Hopefully he will get the rehab he needs at the VA facility.

You know Hook, he says he is reading them, and I have heard him make statements about posts, so I think he is reading them, but he never wants to get
on the computer when I am in his room when I offer to help him. He has a brand new computer and hand held mouse per his request, but I don't know if
there are some cognitive issues involved. He first told me he couldn't turn it on, then he didn't understand what to do next, but he doesn't want
pursue it when I am around to assist him.

I understand completely. I felt the same about not seeing some people while in the hospital.
There's a certain amount of pride in your appearance or, in this case, what you write, and you don't want people to see or read your stuff until you
feel right about it.

succeed!

Dennis, if you wish to, a single motive
Just one mouse click will say ten thousand words, yet not violate your privacy.
Hang in there bro' --- recovery is like sitting on the bank outwaiting a huge german brown trout. It seems like forever.

Thanks for the update Doc and I do hope he gets into a facility that will push him---sounds like he wants to be pushed and good for him.
It sounds like reading and posting on nomads is at the bottom of the priority list where it belongs.
Please just keep telling him that many people are pulling for him.

Regaining health is what is important ---Baja Nomads is not really important in the overall scheme of things. Neither is that other forum.

I do think its a cognitive issue myself, but as you can imagine, I don't want to keep belaboring the point, he feels bad enough. Quote: | Originally posted by DianaT
